star seller buffoonery

 i downloaded my order history to see why i don't have the smooth dispatch badge even though i have done everything right for three months and it says that that order from october 3rd was not dispatched on time.  in completed orders on my dashboard it says that that order was dispatched, on time, with tracking. Glitch? I hate star seller so much. You have to have 100% perfection and even if you do, etsy will screw it up for you. then when you contact customer support they say they can't do anything. they tell you to come here and all you see is hundreds of people complaining about issues, and no resolve. You would think that etsy would so better for their sellers , seeing as they make BANK off of us. I am so frustrated.

@GemmaLuna   I don't think the star seller badge means much to most customers.  I shop on Etsy a lot and never look at it.  I look at reviews.  You have great reviews, so I don't think you should worry about it.

Yes but that's not really the point. When they make an error they should fix it not scrape sellers off to the forums where we can do squat except tell them they got hosed.

LOL ... it's even in their terms.

"Etsy will not be liable for any  ... loss of goodwill .... or emotional distress arising out of or in connection with these terms or the star seller program."

ETA  When I'm looking to buy, I never even look for the purple star. Like others, I'm only interested in shop reviews.

I agree.  It really sucks.  Etsy implemented this system.  The least they could do is make sure it is accurate.  And they've had plenty of time to fix the "glitches," as people have been having issues with it since the beginning.  

I just wanted GemmaLuna to not worry about it overly much as I don't believe it really affects sales.

Don't be overly concerned with star seller logos. My experience. The star seller or not has at most 5% impact on your sales, you still need to spend more time and energy on researching your products.

I have had Star Seller for a grand total of 5 months since its inception.  My longest stretch so far was 3 months over the last Christmas season.  The only criteria I fall down on is the $ value of sales, because my shop is intentionally small time, and while 5 sales is a breeze, to make the $350AU requirement I would need around 18-20 sales in the 3 month period.  I have just made the cut this month thanks to Christmas orders, but I don't anticipate keeping it for much more than that.  In any case, I can honestly say it makes absolutely no difference to my sales whether I have the badge or not.  As my grandson would say, "don't get your knickers in a twist over it".

In most cases (with the exception of missing processing times) it's not glitches that need to be fixed, it's people not reading or understanding the Star Seller requirements.

@GemmaLuna   It's a terrible system, and certainly didn't take Canadian tracking rates into consideration before it was launched.  I don't worry about it anymore.  I will NEVER have the shipping one because of tracking, and my sales haven't been hurt at all.  Buyers care about good products and good reviews.  I think it's rich that etsy wants our customer service to be top notch, while theirs is non existent.

100% non existent! i talked to a customer support person and they were like sorry i can't do anything, go to forums. so here on forums are hundreds upon hundreds of people  expressing frustration amongst each other. what a joke,

@GemmaLuna   It's been that way since Etsy started.  Ron got tired of the questions so he create the forums for just this purpose.  Chat now sends people here because it is in the script they are given.  Heck it's even in the Help pages.

Etsy seems to have 2 options when they are tired of talking to you...  You're lucky they told you to post in the forums, they have been known to just hang up.

I’ve had a Star Seller Badge for about the last 14 months. It doesn’t make much of a difference if at all. I try and weigh my decision as a consumer by the recent Reviews of a Shop and if they’re shipping on time. Those are the two factors I personally look at.

The importance of star seller, no matter what others may say, is that it is the way Etsy knows you are exceeding the lower level expectations for selling on Etsy which is what Etsy wants. 

Even if you cannot get the badges due to the required $300 (USD) and 5 items, Etsy can still see if you are meeting their expectations.

Even if you miss a badge but are working with good customer service, Etsy still sees that,

So making strides towards or having is what Etsy wants to see for having quality.  And even with this little hitch (not glitch) you are doing exactly that.  So take a deep breath and continue to move forward.

I think you should continue contacting support for them to correct the underlying data issue. It is a technical issue! Do not emphasize it is causing a loss of star seller, it seems like Etsy doesn't care to correct that. However, they should care about the data issue.

There are searches on Etsy that default to include star seller. If you are not a star seller you have no chance of being found in search without paying for ads. Who knows for certain how much of an impact it has on sales? I have only seen this default recently, could it be part of decreased sales for some? I honestly do not know.....

Buffoonery is a very apt description. Thank you for that. Etsy should create a buffoonery badge to pin on the 3-armed sweater for themselves

Which shipping company did you use?  If the bots don't recognize the shipping company, then the whole order gets a "no" for on-time dispatch, even though it has a tracking number.

Buffoonery maybe, but as part of the Seller Policy ...
