@Cathyscomfortcorner I believe as a Seller we can see our "Sold" Listings but, if you disable them from public view, no one else can see them

I can see you have 539 Sales but there is no "underline" under this and your Sales do not show to me. But you have 150 Admirers and these do have the "underline" so are visible to the public.

Here are a few reasons:

Pricing:   Perhaps your store pricing has changed.

Artistic changes:  Perhaps your skills have evolved.

@WearYourRocks

Pricing:  Perhaps your store pricing has changed.

This is not a valid reason because when someone clicks on an item in your sold items list they see the current price and not the price it originally sold for.

Am I the first one to say it?

WE ALL STARTED WITH ONE SALE!

(well, those of us who actually sold something once we opened our shops...)

People hide their sold items so prices are not shown (esp. if they have gone up) or because they don't want to be copied for OOAK items. It's their prerogrative

@VintageRescueSquad

Hiding prices (especially if they have gone up) might be their reason but is invalid as the price on the items in sold items show the current price even if the price the item sold for is higher or lower than the current price.

@NoFrogsAllowed  (And Anyone Else)

I thought I read here on the forums (and, actually thought I executed what I am about to state, although I can’t remember how, or if it actually worked)

That we could actually DELETE our previous ‘sold’ items.

No, we can't. We can "hide" them, which effectively deactivates the link on the "_____ sales." They still exist, and people can access them if they find a link.

Someone recently favorited an item I sold in 2017.

Ppl wonder why you would want to actually hide your sales number?
For me, the answer is easy ( and yes….I wish I could too). That number has greater impact. I’m not saying these are reasons the shop wants to hide them…. If you have 0 sales, that instantly builds no trust in your customer. If you have a banging product and shop but little sales…..ppl will question your sales and wonder what’s wrong with you. Even having under 75 sales, imo, doesn’t make you look that trustworthy.

So as a new brand, your fighting against numbers that actually influencer ppl…..Think “ followers, subscribers, etc”. Those counters are a band wagon effect. It’s designed to force a customers decision.

You might think this sounds weird…..it a psychological shopping tactic… it’s a real thing. If you ever studied advertising, you will know that Etsy has used every one of those trick on their site.

As a shop grows bigger, this number works for them, in the “band wagon effect” the higher the number, the greater the demand, giving the customer a sense of urgency and forces the thinking….I need to buy from this shop too!

For me, I just don’t care to have my sales showing. You don’t walk into Pottery Barn and see how many sales they have. I also hide my sold items for the simple reason….i want customers to pick the hat they really like……I don’t want them influenced by the bandwagon and simply choose my best seller.

But honestly, on a side note…..do you know how much sales analysis can be pulled out of those “sold items”? That is super helpful free information for your competition.

Wishing you all a successful weekend!

@HaberdasheryProject Thank you for posting this, I think you're right and being "bigger" can have more power.

Like Starbucks, they are everywhere, and I really don't know how many cups of coffee they sell, but they are everywhere and their popularity might be related in part to just that - they are everywhere.

On the flip side, there is still power in being smaller. Like if I opened "Alex's Little Hole In the Wall Coffee Shop", maybe someone would check that out just because I"m not mega-Starbucks.

It's a big cycle - in theory, Sears should have been able to dominate online sales of home goods, clothes, etc. They had done mail order for 100+ years, had a network of brick and mortar stores and trusted brands, like Craftsman and Kenmore. But back in the 90s, little Amazon started, and now Sears is gone, and Amazon rules the earth. So there is always hope for small shops like all of ours.

@BeaconwoodDettman Yes, there is always hope. And the more we can share with each other, the stronger we can be.

Sad to hear that Sears is gone. I always loved shopping there. Whenever I find their 70’s work shirts in a vintage shop…..it’s like finding gold!

lovely to read your comment.

Best!

@BeaconwoodDettman

How true!

Whenever I travel, I search out those hole-in-the-wall, off-the-beaten-path local places.

I would definitely check out your "Alex's Little Hole in the Wall" shop!

If you are concerned that your shop looks too new without many sales,  remember that everyone started out with none.

There are buyers who actually are prepared to help out a new shop by purchasing from them if they like your products.  And sometimes,  they will even make suggestions on other products they would like to buy from you.

Good luck with your sales.

I'm always happy to give a shop their first sale, or first review, if their listing is something I really want to buy. I'll always remember being grateful to my first buyers, and it takes time to build up a number of sales, so if the shop looks like its put together with care, why not?

But on the other hand, I don't know if "best sellers" (or the "band wagon effect", as mentioned above) always help. Some people don't want to buy what everyone else does. I know I worked in a shop for a while and we had some scarves at one time that were selling like crazy. Some people wanted them just because of that, to have the popular thing, and others said "no thanks" when they heard how many were sold already, so its really hard to say.
