mistake in tracking number provided

Turns out I accidentally typed an extra number into the tracking info I provided to a customer. 

I only discovered this about a week later when I looked and saw that my star seller rating had dropped. When I investigated why, I saw that Etsy had counted this as though I had not provided tracking info. When I contacted seller support, I was told it was past the allotted 3 day editing window and that there was nothing they, or I, could do. 

When I go onto Canada Post, and enter the number correctly it shows the exact order and that it was delivered on time. Yet, for some reason this doesn't count or matter to Etsy support. In their eyes, I still neglected to provide tracking info. 

I find it extremely frustrating that, despite going above and beyond with every transaction I make, a simple human error, such as adding one extra number to tracking info, can't be fixed to reflect the work and information that I truly did provide. 

This is one more strike against Etsy in their poor service to us seller's that make them billions.

 I totally agree. Same thing happened to me once. Why etsy can't adjust a tracking number in their own system for their own sellers information after 3 days, when it is listed correctly on the USPS website, is beyond me. Package was delivered on time, but it was held against me anyway & the advice from etsy help was useless. They wanted the correct tracking number in their system & wanted me to contact my customer & "pretend" she bought something else so I could send the correct number, even though the incorrect one would still count against me. Ridiculous! And I'm not involving my customer. Customer service rep said, "they won't mind". Egads!

@PeachyChicBoutique: "Why etsy can't adjust a tracking number in their own system ..." Not disagreeing with you, but considering all the complaints about delays in getting customer service, how much worse would it be with all of the Star Seller adjustments added in?

Long before Star Seller was even thought of, we got into the habit of spending a few moments daily checking the previous day's shipments to make sure that they were at least "in transit" so if something was wrong we could fix it within the 72 hour window we are allotted.

for star seller, you have to enter the correct tracking number, by the ship date

and even then..I had one where the line on the CSV was a jumbled mess  of nonsense numbers and letters. It had a valid tracking number on the order and was marked delivered and got a 5 star review. Etsy would not even reply to me let alone fix THEIR error. Just how the cookie crumbles (or the biscuit..lol) I had to wait 3 months for it to drop off.

@hopeandjoystudios  - And then the continuing saga of some EU & Australia shops having an Etsy glitch change their selected carrier?
When their Postal Service selection suddenly becomes FedEx, well of course the tracking number format doesn't agree. Etsy sees this as no tracking. But since there's no rhyme or reason to when the glitch rears its ugly head, there is apparently no motivation to try & find out what's behind it.

In one of my wishful-thinking days, I imagine that some Etsy staff members are reading these forums and find threads like this. And say, wow, that's really embarrassing. We should do better.  We can do better.  Then take steps to address the issues. 

But yeah, that's just on my wishful-thinking days. Where the staff cares, or even responds. Probably not in this incarnation. It's just a crying shame, yknow?

Happened to me about a year ago, so now I triple-check the number before I hit enter.

Wait until you get dinged because USPS didn't scan a package in. You'll be doubly frustrated

JMOldeVintage, that happened to me recently also! Carrier was automatically changed to Fedex. I never ship Fedex, didn't touch that button! Fortunately, I did catch that one & was able to change it within the 3-day period. Whew!
