I keep trying to reply to a message in the etsy seller app and my message keeps failing to send. I updated my app, made sure my OS was updated, and restarted my phone and its still not working. Tried on desktop too and not working either.
I know some sellers have reported this issue when using the app. I hadn't heard of it happening on desktop though. Did you try clearing cache/cookies & trying a different browser on desktop?
What was the message? There are many scams happening right now and Etsy has been removing the scammers sometimes before you can reply. Did the person who messaged you ask for your email address?
If you try to send a message to an account that Etsy has already removed, what normally happens, do you know? Does an error come up that says the account is gone? Or just that the message fails to send?
Good point, I don't know as it has not happened to me. I see various things from sellers who it has happened to. As the OP has a fairly new shop, that is what popped into my mind right away.
@CanningCrafts: If the account is closed, you should see a message something like "User Name is Invalid". That message means that the account has been closed (either by the user or by Etsy). Just in case, you should make sure to mark the message as SPAM (at last report you cannot do that using the seller app only a browser, even your mobile browser, or the buyer app).
I agree to check if the user that sent the message is still active. I'm not 100% positive, but I'm pretty sure you will get that error when trying to respond to an account that has been deactivated.
Yes, it said it wasn't a valid username. I didn't realize Esty must have closed their account. Thank you!
@LanguageNerdsApparel if Etsy closed the account then it's usually because they are a scammer. You should take note of the contents of the message and if you receive any more similar messages (e.g. asking for your email address) you should not respond but mark them as 'SPAM' (I think this needs to be done in desktop/browser).
