help lol

So turns out the bank account connected to my etsy is not my bank account. I have absolutely no idea how long this has been here. Now it says it is a savings account which is definitely something I would connect on a site like this. However the last 4 digits are not the last for digits of my savings account.  What happened?

Suspicion 1: I got hacked

Suspicion 2: When I made my etsy sellers account it was the year 2021, & my bank was BBVA. Compass took over or something & BBVA changed their name to PNC & they said no accounts would change. Which now that I have put this into words it doesn't make sense so never mind.

Suspicion 3: my venmo, cashapp, or paypal was used to sign up initionally. Just checked all account numbers and none match up to the last 4 numbers on my etsy account.

I have been searching the forums here for quite sometime to resolve this issue. ended up pressing a Contact Etsy button for on the phone support.. never got a call? & so yeah I don't know what to do. I have 7 sales and no idea where these peoples money is going. (2 years this went unnoticed)  What do I do.

Re: help lol

Only Etsy will be able to assist you with this unless you know your own account details, there is no way of changing this. You will have to contact Etsy via the help section in your dashboard, without a valid verified account, you will not receive your funds.

If you have been hacked, I would put your shop on vacation mode until you have the answers.

@SherbertPunchStudio

If you can get into your shop- change the password and do the 2 tier authentication. Write down the codes they give you and put the shop on Vacation mode. And contact Etsy like was suggested.  Maybe also call your bank and see if they did change the acct numbers when it was bought or sold. You should be able to get into your bank online and look back to see if you did get the money from those sales.

Re: help lol

To change a bank account on a seller account, there is some built in security.  First, the hackers would have to know the full number of the original account - that's not information they would know.  Second, the name on the bank account needs to match the name on the ID credentials you used to sign up.  Finally, they would have to be really dumb criminals.  It is incredibly easy for the authorities to "follow the money" via their bank account.

I would say this is a glitch somewhere in the system.  Etsy's CS is atrocious but be patient.

Re: help lol

Thank you. That is what I had thought initially about being hacked but I wasn't too sure.

Re: help lol

The first thing I would do is change your password on Etsy and anywhere else you use the same password. Then put your store on vacation until you can get ahold of Etsy support. Also, contact your bank and make sure it is your actual account number, or change it if it isn't. If it isn't your account number, I would also cancel any credit cards you have through that bank and have them reissued.

I check the last four digits of my account number everywhere I use it and make sure it is correct every time I login. When money is involved, I only use a password for each site and make sure all my other financial accounts have a different password, so at least if a hacker gets in one account, they can't steal all of them. Passwords should be nonsense words that don't make any actual words, with a combination of upper and lower case letters, at least one symbol and at least 14 characters long, or the max allowed. Don't use names or birthdays of kids, pets, spouse, mother's maiden name, etc.

Honestly it might just be better to open a new shop. However you would not be able to use the exact same shop name again. You would need to manually copy across your listings. Don't have the same listing live in both shops at the same time. And finally, make sure you fully close the old shop.

As a side note: make sure you are up to date with what the scammers are doing as they target new shops and are sending fake verification emails which are very convincing - so you don't want to get caught out by that at the same time.
