So now, there's a new thing at the top of our shop. Such and such-many years on Etsy. That's fine, but Etsy's math is off. I started my other shop in 2008 and this one in 2009. Why is Etsy saying in both shops that I've been here for 14 years. It's actually 17 years in my first shop and 16 years in this one.
Why change something if you are going to get it wrong? It's just simple math.
Typical.
My account says I opened in June 10, 2010, which is definitely the correct date. I have it recorded. But my forum profile says I opened in August 2010.
June 2010 to July 2025 = 15 years....they say 14 years. (And it isn't because of when I joined in on the forums, as I didn't even know about it back then for a couple years.)
No big deal, just amusing.
@NightOwlMemories - So yours says 14 also? They must be stuck on that number!!
I started a thread on this a month ago. Etsy is aware of the problem but said they will not be fixing it anytime soon if at all. I've been here 18 years and it says 14 for me. Etsy's work around is to put the correct date in your shop announcements, LOL. They've buried the shop announcements under the listings. We have no control over our shops anymore. How disgusting is it that Etsy is telling us to find work arounds when they screw something up? It's too much to ask them to be professional and fix the things they mess up.
Looks like 14 is their max. and why is this all so HUGE now on the storefront? I do like all the star seller bs gone though.
I've been here 19yrs. They should fix it to be correct.. So frustrating!!
I figure if anyone has endured Etsy this long, they deserve full credit. For me, I've been doing this a very long time and do a lot of custom work. Recently, I had a customer leave feedback that I needed to defend and I partly defended it by stating I've been here 18 years. It looks like I don't know when I started which now impacts my credibility.
Thank you for this thread. Some years were so painful on etsy, I have earned the right to see them counted. That info isn't correct on any of my shops .I wrote them this week to ask them not to give my customers wrong information about my business. The answer was that they "round the number down". Huh ?? What for ??? Anyone can read "on etsy since 2013" and "11 years on etsy" , on the same shop front ! Give the right information, or don't mention it.
I agree with the above as far as frustration. I opened my shop in July 2007 which will be 18 years in a few days. Etsy shows 14 years. Hopefully this will be fixed soon.
@gjarvisjewelryetc I'm having the same dates problem as you. I started on August 6, 2007 which is indicated at the bottom of my shop page. However, at the top, it says 14 years - almost 4 years off! I guess they can't add.
Ugh! Seems 14 is the magic number. I don't understand this at all. Before, they showed that I opened in 2008 and 2009 respectively. That worked for me!
Again, Etsy, if you are going to change something, please do it correctly.
So frustrating. Stop with the changes, especially if you are going to get it wrong.
Some sellers would prefer for it to be removed and not have it.
CindyLou explained on another thread about this. It was a good explanation but I can't recall the thread now.
It's silly and crazy but that's Etsy....
I think this must be a test, because I’m not seeing that on your shop or on any shop. What I do see is “latest activity” followed by a date. I see that on your shop my own shop and other shops that I click on
I looked at it and thought "Wow! 14 years already; time flies". Then I realized it's really been 17 years.
Oh well, I plan to retire in a few months (as soon as I finish painting everything in my studio). Someone asked me "Where are you retiring from?" I guess I will still ponder that......
My Etsyversary is August 14 (2006). Etsy even sent me a very early anniversary greeting a week ago which showed the correct date, so they know what that is. However, I recently saw something which implied I opened this shop in 2010; I just rolled my eyes. What else am I gonna do? But I do like the suggestion to post the opening date in the shop announcement!
I joined Etsy in 2007 that is 18 years ago Etsy says I have been here only for 14 ! I wonder where this poor calculation came from?
Exactly, Mulberry. They are basically lying about how long our shops have been around.
They want US to correct their mistake in our shop announcements??
And all this makes sense how?
I'm not in the test (and/or am just missing it) - I know it says "on Etsy since (date)" - but where is it saying " 14 years" (or whatever?)
Not to mention, why on earth would they use the wrong total number of years? What could be the possible advantage?!
Well, I guess not everyone is in this test (?) then. I liked it better when it just stated the year.
Still not understanding the logic of this. Why change the year? Why max it out at 14 years?
@beadstylin No, it doesn't make sense; it's inaccurate. Also, the Sales No. is not clickable, for those who did not make them Private. That doesn't make sense either.
My guess? I don't think Etsy AI can see the actual start date; they go by the date when they started hooking our shops up to their stats. I believe everyone's stats started in 2012, but I imagine they had things hooked up and were testing in 2011.
I'm pretty sure there were stats from Day 1. Or at least from when I opened my shop in 2006, in Etsy's 14th month of existence. Of course they've been tweaked and improved over the years, but I'm pretty confident I've always had some sort of stats in my shop.
At some point, Etsy "lost" my data that was older than 10 years or so. That's sad because I'll never know how I did in those early years (other than what I remember). I'd created a spreadsheet to track my Etsy sales by month but kept that on a flash drive because the hard drive in the laptop I had at the time had an attitude problem and I didn't want to lose my spreadsheet if the hard drive went belly up. Then the flash drive went belly up out of the blue!
For some reason, "14" seems to a magical number to Etsy. Google says it pertains to cultures & religions. Hmm, interesting ...
@NightOwlMemories It's true; in another Thread about this change (for those of us who are in the test), TheOldBarnDoor said that 14 is the highest Etsy is going. And it isn't accurate for those who have been here longer.
@ChillwolfArt -- have you noticed ... clicking on sales no longer allows you to see a shop's sold items. Sellers could always choose to hide these within the OPTIONS menu, but now with the new shopfronts, ALL sold items are completely hidden. Wonder why?
Yes, no one's Sales No. is clickable. And you wonder the reason for this; I can't think of a single thing that makes sense, for those of us who did not make our Sales Private.
