Hey There!

The Message response rate counts initial messages from all Etsy members, both buyers, and other sellers. This also includes duplicate messages or messages sent in error. Unwanted messages may be marked as spam.

You can set up an auto-reply to make sure all new messages will have a reply. You can learn more about it here.

This month of July, we introduced a new-and-improved Messages experience that will start to combine messages from the same buyer into a single thread. You can learn more about this and some other exciting changes here.

Thanks!

Because you did no reply. It's an automated program and does not read any messages.

Etsy can't read every convo sent and try to figure out what it might mean and if it needs a reply.  It's impossible.

The only thing they look at is if it's the first message and if you reply.

Make sure to read the rules if you want to get/keep the badge.

You have to answer or spam all first messages. Spam it now and it may come off your score in a couple days. I'd do it quickly as month end is approaching.

When someone thanks me, I don't ignore them.  I say "you're welcome".

That was taught to me by my parents about 83 or 84 years ago.

It is really hard for me to understand that responding to a message is so hard for sellers to do.  If you can take the time to read it, you can take the time to respond: you're welcome, thank you, smile face, ?, etc.

This is the only requirement for your star seller status you have full control over.

I can not answer for the OP, but some sellers here have a full time job aside from selling on Etsy. At work, I can not be on my phone or use the company computer to log in my Etsy store right? I was taught by my parents about "you are welcome as well", but usually my response is after 24 hours. In my case, I do not bother about badges anymore as it is stressful for me. We were getting sales after all even before these badges thingy happened anyway. I'm more focused in getting good reviews than being a star seller. That's just me though.
