I could easily have 25 categories in my store, why has Etsy always limited categories to 20? Also, it seems that many book titles have four words, and I like to capitalize book titles. So why has Etsy always limited listing titles to 3 capitalized words?
I wish we could have more categories too. I realize lots of searches are keyword-driven, but once someone finds our shop, I would love to have the ability to show them other things I have that are like the one they searched for. For example, right now I have a "Glass" category - I want to get more specific than that, so Glass Bottles, Glass Mason Jars, etc. but I've maxed out my 20, so I'm stuck.
The caps limit I like - it makes Etsy look different than eBay, in a good way. eBay is full of examples like "READ! RARE! COKE 8 OZ BOTLE 1932 HARD 2 FIND SCARCE!". Classic carnival barker-style. At my previous job, we used to coach people not to use all caps because it comes across like shouting.
Just like the big colored boxes Etsy wants us to have to x out of on our home page. It’s a control thing. Please leave at least 5 words in your review.
I believe the limit of 20 sections is because Etsy has correctly learned that shoppers typically don't spend a lot of time on a single page. Because society has become "faster" a lot of wording can push a shopper away rather than encourage engagement. This can be frustrating as crucial information is often missed and harder to organize. And it's difficult for we sellers to figure out how to ensure pertinent information is received.
Capital letters are likely restricted in titles because when they are done in all caps they're harder to read. They can also make a site look messy. An inexperienced seller may assume using capitals inappropriately may pull views towards their item and not realize it can do the opposite. On a site like Etsy this can be problematic.
My page has 16 categories, not including the "all categories" listing. I can't figure out how to add another four of them; there isn't a space or link to do so. Does someone know how to do this?
I've wished for more categories
and I've wished for longer tags
I think it belongs on my never enough list: can't be rich enough, thin enough or have enough categories or enough tag space
I wish they allowed periods and &, " and 's so you could say girl's instead of girls but I guess it all ends up the same. I wish tags could be longer and also allowed characters so I could say 1.25" or 5 1/2" cause 5 and a half inches is not fitting in a tag. They DO now at least have a measurements attribute but...
@hopeandjoystudios: I agree with you about the special characters but at least that one is understandable as each tag resolves to a market page and the special characters would just be stripped out to make nonsense.
And realistically, is there any category quantity or tag length that would make every one happy?
I've wished for measurements also.
