Why I MUST use 3 different Etsy Apps on my iPhone

All seller bugs set aside (which I could draft a few more threads regarding), I would like to talk about why I need to use 3 different Etsy Apps on my iPhone, and propose a solution for this nonsense. I know there is a lot going on at Etsy, but sometimes focus does need to be on the basics.

1.) Etsy: This app must be installed because I cannot Shop and Sell on the same application. This is not too big of a deal for me, but does seem quite facile; just look at Fiverr as an example. I understand that most Etsy decisions are on the basis of the "Customer Perspective", so it seems to be there will always be 2 separate applications. However, there are 3; Moving on

2.) Sell on Etsy: This app is the cleanest of them all and my favorite, however lacks significant capability in regards to the Etsy Seller app. The UI is familiar and sleek. I run 16.2 beta on my iPhone as a developer, and this application crashes every time I click on one of my listings. It would be nice if dev focus at Etsy could be on top of innovation as opposed to behind it. This application also contains the scroll bug, which does not allow me to scroll further than a few messages.

3.) Etsy Seller: In contrast, I must use this app to edit my listings, update pricing, etc. This app allows me to scroll all the way to the top, so I am often hopping back and forth to see my historical messages.

Can we consolidate? Does anyone else find themselves in a moshpit of Etsy Apps?

Re: Why I MUST use 3 different Etsy Apps on my iPhone

Excellent post!  Yes, I've always used the Buyer app (orange icon) and the Sell on Etsy app (white icon with orange lettering) and now the new Seller app (blue icon) - which will replace the Sell on Etsy app, at some point.  The new one is also missing a lot of features, and will most likely be changing constantly, just as we are trying to get used to it.  Typical Etsy.

I used to have the best "user experience" on mobile using the desktop / browser version (or however you want to describe it) - but for the past half of a year, I can't access it, as I always get shunted to one of the apps.

Luckily for me, I don't rely on mobile, and only use it for the "cha-ching" and quick edits and messages.

You don't need to use an app at all you could just use a browser.

I swap between mobile/desktop versions.

Unfortunately, all features are not available from the browser either.   The auto-responder toggle on messages is unavailable on Chrome via Android.

Most of my work is conducted remotely. Again back to the "innovative" construct. Imagine being "locked" to a Desktop computer to expand your business.

Or do you mean using a browser on the phone? Which is an okay idea, as Emerald said also is missing some features - and then totally disregards BOTH apps instead of just consolidating functionality

Using the browser on the phone would be fine IF they would stop having pop ups that say 'Etsy is better on the app!' and you have to choose to continue to mobile or go to the app, and then even if you go to the app from there it doesn't carry over whatever you were searching for or bring you to the shop you had clicked on from social media that you tried to go to in the first place.

Maybe if they just let you use a browser on the phone without the annoying prompts to use their app it wouldn't be so bad.

You could use the browser, and do everything from one place. Unless you have more than one shop, of course.

Re: Why I MUST use 3 different Etsy Apps on my iPhone

Totally agree! I find it easiest to just use the browser for everything. I only use the Sell on Etsy app to notify me of orders. They should do something to consolidate it though

Re: Why I MUST use 3 different Etsy Apps on my iPhone

I use the app (old version) on my Android phone to create draft listings as I can upload my pre-edited photos direct from the phone.  Next I go to my laptop and use the browser version to finalise and publish as my eyesight is too poor to use the browser version on my phone.

Exactly! I am not sure if Etsy understands that Sellers are out here creating loopholes and extra process flows that consist of multiple use streams because each app location is good for 25% of the process

Re: Why I MUST use 3 different Etsy Apps on my iPhone

In that case I still need the app installed to receive notifications on my device, but use browser for functionality. Would be nice to have an All In One source

Agreed! It’s stressful too when I get the same message notification three times on all apps. It’s like oh I can only use this to message and for explore, this one for forums and to change listings if need be and this one to shop…

Re: Why I MUST use 3 different Etsy Apps on my iPhone

I do most of my work on a desktop in my office. I have all three apps on my phone. The old app gives me notices of messages and sales, the buyers app is if I want to search, the new app doesn't give me notices of sales, or messages consistanly. So i don't trust it. Plus the second thing seen is the star seller info. Come on Etsy I know where I stand or it can be easily found elsewhere...I am not two years old. Yes I would love to have all of them consolidated but think it would be a hot mess as they can't seem to get anything to function properly..think search function on etsy.
