What the hell happened to creating a custom listing from the Esty messaging screens? Now I can select a shipping profile or add a picture or anything this is crazy. I have to know the shipping cost and all mine are calculate. A couple days ago I could start to create a custom listing and then save that as a draft and then update that with the correct shipping etc. Now the only option I have are to enter a couple things (not shipping or attach a picture) and send it right then and there to the customer this is so stupid.
You can only create one custom order per message thread. You can ask the customer to send you a new conversation in a new thread and then the create a custom order button will be there.
That's not the issue. The issue is that several days ago when I would click on the "create custom order" button/link I was able to start the custom order/listing and save it as a draft and then go in and modify the order before it was shared/published. This allowed me to correct the shipping profile (select my calculated one). Also it allowed me (forced me) to add a picture to the custom order/listing now it does not
This allowed me to correct the shipping profile (select my calculated one)
And has this worked in the past? (really curious) Because Etsy say:
"It's not possible to choose a calculated shipping profile for custom orders at this time."
And it's always said that.
I wonder what they've done to it.
Oh I must have got the wrong end of the stick. However, if you can't retrieve the one you started, then my suggestion above will help. Hope it gets sorted.
There are other complaints about this new setup. It's ridiculous, though I have not seen it yet. What some are doing is publishing, then going to that listing in Shop Manager and editing to add a picture and shipping.
Personally, I would (instead of dealing with this) set up a regular listing with a generic picture and RESERVED in the title, then sending the customer a link to it.
You should be able to save a custom listing without publishing it. Then go to your drafts and further edit as you need to.
What I found is that there's no option to copy the original listing if buyers just want that modified a bit. I've had to copy/paste the relevant description bits into a new custom listing.
I have not been able to try the new format for Customs thru the messages yet - it appears to be a test, and sees to come and go. Others have had it, got frustrated, like the OP, and came back later to see it gone. I have seen the generic thumbnail pic in some shops' sold listings. It's quite basic. I'm hoping once published, but before the Buyer purchases, I'm still able to go find it in my Listings Manager and edit.
They've been tinkering with it, but I don't think it's a permanent change. Yet. I had a custom order yesterday that took a bit of finessing, but it looks like usual today.
This has been showing up on and off for me over the past 2 weeks. There is nothing about this that is an improvement. It is slower and more difficult to navigate back and forth between the conversation and the custom listing you are trying to create. You can't upload any of your photos. And you can't choose your shipping profile. I wonder what Etsy is thinking this is supposed to be an improvement for? I have found that after I create the custom listing, I click on the link and can edit it like a normal listing. But this takes so much extra time, for features that were there on the previous version. If anyone on Etsy sees this message, this is an aweful change!
This is a problem. I want to save a draft so I can edit it before sending. All I can do now is send it, without photos, then edit after the customer sees it. This needs to be fixed.
I have just had to do this and it is hopeless! As you say a couple of boxes to fill in, no pictures and off it goes, couldn't even find the listing in the message thread so had to go to listings and edit from there - absolute crap - bring back the old version and stop messing around with things that don't need fixing.....
