How can I tell if my views/visits are from genuine people looking at my listings or just some sort of automated system from etsy.

there is no "automated system" from Etsy.

Do you mean bots?  If you have bot views they will likely be in the thousands and Etsy removes bot views when it updates your stats.  If you have what appears to be a reasonable amount of views then these should be genuine.  If you post in the forum, your views are very likely to increase as people check your shop out.
