When item(s) sell on a listing with variations, why are they not removed from the original listing? Why are they still visible on the pull-down variation menu as availble for sale?
If you have varying quantities, you need to select the button that say quantity varies for [your variation]
So if you have 3 blue, 2 red, 7 orange whatzit...when 1 sells out, that option is greyed out and no one can select it to buy.
The downside is if you have or can make more of that whatzit you aren't notified that one of your variations are sold out so you do have to watch the item or keep a mental inventory.
I hope this helps!
A lot of my listings have variations.
And when the quantity of that variation has sold out, someone trying to buy it sees that it is sold out.
I find your idea intriguing ... but it would require that Etsy remove the photos in the listing.
And I get quite a few messages asking me if I plan on restocking a variation that has sold out. I find those helpful because they lead to custom orders and information about what buyers like.
