Earlier today I received a message from a potential customer about a rush order. I was working and unable to respond at the time. I only looked at the push notification and did not look open the app. Now that I'm home and know I have the product I went to respond and it's gone. I know I didn't imagine it, because I also have the email notification. Has this happened to anyone else? Can buyers recall a message if they want to?
See if it was moved to spam. Etsy often identifies spam emails.
Etsy can remove messages from Spammers/scammers. It's always possible the buyer who messaged you wasn't legit & the message was removed. Or it could've been moved into your Spam folder, so check there.
If you have the email notification, what happens when you click the View Message button? Sometimes Etsy will remove customer accounts & it'll say the member doesn't exist anymore.
I've had that happen and randomly the message was moved to the spam folder.
Spam folder was the first place I checked and it was not there.
