Vacation Mode turned itself off

I put my shop on vacation mode last week with plans to reopen again January 1st. Customers that have messaged me during this time have received my custom auto-reply and orders have stopped. Everything working as it should until….

Today (12/23) I get a notification that I have sold an item. When I checked my shop -  I was no longer on vacation mode. My shop had been re-open and was accepting orders. This was not done by me. I did not take my shop off vacation mode. 

Of course, I immediately reactivated vacation mode, but now I don’t trust it. Also, the custom auto reply I wrote last week is gone, replaced with the default message. 

I’m writing this message as I chat with Etsy support. They’re “going to look into it.” In the meantime, I’ll probably be checking my shop settings every morning to make sure they haven’t been changed, again.

personally...I don't see the bottomline issue.

YES, I do see that the vac mode was overode. And that's an issue, to be sure.

but, why do you choose to go on vac  mode? In my 15 years here, despite international trips (2 weeks) I NEVER do. Never have. Don't think I ever will.

I extend my shipping timelines. I put in autoresponder. And I do check in as often as possible to see if anything needs my help.

If someone wants to order, understanding that it won't ship for 3 weeks (or whatever you choose)...they do. If they go 'oh wow, I didn't know...' Then you refund them.

but forum lore has it that vac mode tanks you in search and it takes weeks to recover. To me, that seems too high a price to pay.

Of course, you can. I just don't understand why one would...

Personally, for me, I’m a workaholic that has a hard time stepping away. So if I were to leave my shop open, then the temptation to just jump back in and fill those few orders - it’s not good for me and the work/life balance I’m trying to achieve.

I sure hope this doesn't happen to others, especially if they are on vacation mode due to health issues, moving, etc.

Wow - that would really upset me.  I'm currently on vacation mode as well - guess I  need to check it every day now.  Everyone's knows how many steps to get to turn Vaca mode off and on.  No way it can be done by accident!

I've always been pro -Vaca mode, and I  would worry about coming back from a break to a pile of orders - I wouldn't be able to relax and enjoy family time if I extended processing time instead of slumbering my shop.

There is Life outside of Etsy.

Oh - and there have been several times I've needed to flip on Vaca. Mode in an emergencies.   Very upsetting to imagine this happing in a dire situation.
