Uploading pictures

For the past couple of years every time I try to upload pictures it takes a long time before they upload or I get an error message "Hm, we’re having trouble uploading those files. Try again, and if this keeps happening contact Etsy Support".   I have not contacted Etsy as I don't know if that would even resolve the issue.   I am using my laptop.  I have uploaded pictures on other sites, and they load within seconds.   Does anyone have any suggestions.

Can you try using the mobile app? Best of luck!

Re: Uploading pictures

Are you trying to upload them one at a time or all photos for that listing being dragged and dropped? If all, have you tried one at a time?

Re: Uploading pictures

Try one at a time, if not try a different browser.

I have not noticed issues with the image upload for over a year and believe it has improved, uploading 9 or 10 images at once takes under a minute.

Re: Uploading pictures

When something is wriong and there is a lack of information I blame our cat. It's a fair bet, he looks guilty and it is usually his fault. He's only doing it for more fuss and attention.

Is it intermittent or all the time?

Which country?

Are you using a VPN?

What is your internet connection upload speed? (run an internet speed test)

What browser & operating system?

What is the image filetype extension? (.jpg / .gif / .png / ...?)

How large (MB file size) are the image files you are uploading?

Do you use a wifi connection to your router to connect to the internet?

Are you in a densely populated area?

When did you last reboot your laptop and internet router?

Re: Uploading pictures

It has been all the time lately.  I have tried for hours the past two days.  I am not using VPN.   The browser is Edge.  I believe the image is .jpg.  Not sure about size.  I have a router and I am out in the country not a populated area.   Last rebooted after the hurricane.

@ForestHillsVintiques

There should not be a problem with .jpg files being accepted by Etsy, even if uncompressed, unless you are uploading really big image sizes.

Etsy's upload filesize limit is about 10MB.

That should not be a problem for 3000px square images without compression (100% quality). That's a 9MP image, and the files will be a max of about 8MB.

If you are trying to upload larger uncompressed images straight out of the camera, say 6000x4000px (24MP) uncompressed, then it may be a problem with files possibly in the region of 12 to 16MB.

How many megapixels is your camera? Can you check the image sizes that you are trying to upload? Either file size or image dimensions (preferably both). On a Windows PC, right click on image, select "properties", General tab has filesize, Details tab has pixel dimensions.

Hurricane damage area . . . is the internet speed restricted?

Also "in the country not a populated area", so not likely to be a problem with wifi saturation, but probably slow internet speeds normally, and the last areas to be fully repaired after hurricane damage.

Do an internet speed test.

It is the upload speed that is important for loading images onto Etsy.

Many domestic internet connections are asymmetric, with upload speed only a tenth of the download speed.

If internet speeds are being restricted due to internet infrastructure damage then you probably won't notice a drop in download speeds. If the upload speeds have dropped then it will be more noticeable when uploading large files to Etsy.

Re: Uploading pictures

I had a problem then switched to uploading 2 or 3 at a time.  That worked.  Takes a little longer but had success.
