I have several orders incorrectly marked as gift. The 'Unmark as a gift' function is still there in the 3-dots menu but it does not actually unmark as a gift. I have no option but to print a gift packing slip.
I've tried several different browsers so that does not appear to be the problem. Is this happening for all sellers?
Why would you want to unmark as a gift if the buyer selected that?
@NanaLetha I do this with some countries such as Germany when they require multiple invoices so that the price is listed.
When people are giving it as a gift but are having it shipped to themselves and there is no gift message. It is clearly not being shipped to the recipient.
Also, Etsy does not have this option properly worded. It simply says "Mark order as gift". It should say something like "Gift item being shipped directly to recipient" or something like that.
It's the only way to include a Personal Note on the Packing Slip. A lot of customers mark as a gift simply to indicate they don't want the cost showing, and don't include any message. The item is going to them, and not to someone else.
I haven't used it for about two weeks, but it was working then.
Another option is to just ignore it. Rather than print a "Gift" print you can also adjust the "Receipt" with the option to remove the price portion of the print. This way the person getting the gift does not see what was paid.
Yes - I've had to resort to doing that - but I really prefer to include a Personal Note to my customers. So disappointing
You have to put an invoice on the outside, in the currency of the country you are shipping to, for customs purposes
The info for that is only on the packing slip
to get that, you have to unmark as gift - I've only had it not able to unmark, when there is no gift message - maybe it's got worse
the order has the sellers currency, not the buyers currency - and etsy doesn't tell you what exchange rate it used
I'm having that same problem. "Unmark as Gift" is just not working. I've tried several times over a couple of days. The banner comes up saying the status has changed but it hasn't. I ended up printing a receipt instead of the packing slip.
Mountaincut did you ask your customers if they wanted it unmarked as a gift or if they checked that box by mistake?
I'm having the same issue. When I click "unmark as gift," it says the status was updated, but the invoice still prints as a gift receipt. I prefer to uncheck that box when customers misunderstand what it means—like when they’re sending the order to themselves. The regular receipt includes a review reminder section at the bottom, which I like to circle as a gentle nudge. Unfortunately, the gift receipt doesn’t include that, so there’s no easy way to prompt a review unless I write it on the gift receipt. Etsy needs to change the wording of this so less customers misinterpret as to what it means.
This is still broken for me, too. I used the customer support chat to report it on Sunday, and it was acknowledged as a bug. But the follow up e-mail said reboot my computer and clear the cache. Have done, and tried it with several browsers over multiple devices, and it still does not work.
This is still broken. Would be nice if Etsy could acknowledge and give some sort of ETA.
Yes - I've had this problem for a few days now. I always like to include a 'Personalised note' to the buyer, especially as the majority of my orders are for 13th (lace) wedding anniversaries so I like to finish off the note with a Best wishes or Happy Anniversary, etc salutation. But now, although I click on Unmark as Gift, it's not working, despite a message popping up stating 'Gift status updated successfully' - it really hasn't updated at all and all I can print is the simple gift receipt. Really frustrating and annoying.
It is such a pain!!! I absolutely need that function to work. I can't even begin to imagine if they don't fix this before Christmas.
I reported this issue to ETSY support and part of their reply was:
Our engineering team is actively investigating this issue, and I have included all the details from your report to help them resolve it as quickly as possible.
Hopefully fixed soon.
The more people that report this hopefully the sooner it will be fixed.
It’s big issue for overseas orders.
the packing slip is the only piece of paperwork with price breakdown, items details etc in the buyers currency.
just the receipt is not enough for a swift passage through customs…
This is a complete pain - why has it not been fixed yet?
Still not fixed, international order which I can't generate the invoices for for customs.
It’s so annoying! It’s been like it for several weeks now. They must know what they’ve tinkered with to cause it!
I sell greetings cards and so many customers mark their order as a gift even though it’s clearly going to them, the purchaser! I don’t think a lot people actually understand what the feature is for.
I use it as part of my packaging to avoid using plastic and of course, as already mentioned, it contains ‘a note from the shop’
Had an update from ETSY support today, it reads:
I’ve taken a look at your concern regarding unmarking orders as gifts. Currently, once an order is marked as a gift, this setting cannot be reversed or unmarked. The "mark as gift" option is designed to hide the price from the packing slip, and this action is not intended to be undone after the order is placed.
Slightly worrying if this is the case, going to cause a lot of issues, as the previous poster mentioned most customers mark as gift because its a gift for someone, they don't really understand what its for.
What is it going to take for them to change it back!? This is so frustrating!!!
