I do not need help with this, but instead creating this discussion to help anyone else who’s run into this issue.
Twice this week (due to the horrible placement of the new “Mark as Spam” button in the app) I accidentally marked a message from a potential buyer as spam while intending to mark it as unread. I went to my phone browser and immediately marked the message as Not Spam to move it back to my Inbox. When I went to reply to the buyer, I couldn’t and received an error message saying “Could not send message. If this keeps happening contact Etsy support.” To no surprise, Etsy support was no help.
BUT I FOUND A FIX!!
You need to go to a desktop (doesn’t work on a phone browser, must be an actual laptop or desktop computer), go to messages and click on the message you’re trying to reply to. Click on the buyer’s profile to the right of the messages. Scroll to the bottom of their page and click “Unblock this person”. Return to messages and you should now be able to message them.
Note that their reply may end up back in the spam folder so keep a close eye on it and move it back to your inbox as soon as you can. You may need to repeat the process above if it goes to spam again.
Hope this helps another seller in need. Etsy support sure won’t.
This is exactly what happened to me. Im glad this is a good work around, or at least better than no way to contact a potential buyer. The mark as spam button is very easy to hit by accident
