USPS First Class Mail/Ground Advantage - USPS Priority Mail Issue

Jump to solution

Hi,

The last two customers I had this past week both chose USPS First Class Mail.

First, that needs to be taken off of the customer's choice and replaced with Ground Advange since the post office doesn't offer that any more.

The second issue is that when the customers do choose USPS First Class Mail, when I go to purchase the shipping label, the USPS PRIORITY Mail is checked.  The packages were not one pound or more at all.   This needs to be corrected.  This could result in the seller being charged more for  postage if it's not caught when purchasing the label.

This is a huge glitch.

Thanks!

@PooglesCorner: "First, that needs to be taken off of the customer's choice and replaced with Ground Advange since the post office doesn't offer that any more." Agree with you with one caveat - since the 15.99 ounce limit no longer exists for Ground Advantage, a 16 ounce package can now go as Ground Advantage (unlike before where it had to go Priority Mail) but the estimated time in transit for that 16 ounce package can be significantly longer than the 15.99 ounce package. When this change is implemented we are hoping that Etsy will include a seller choice to force 16 ounce and heavier packages into Priority Mail otherwise there are going to be many complaints about how long it took for a package to be delivered.

First Class is now part of Ground Advantage.  You can still get the same prices for First Class Package using Ground Advantage.

Are you saying Priority is the default in the label.  I think it became that way or has always been that way in the drop down..

Buyers don't see the wording until they are ordering.  It says First Class and Parcel Select.for now as Etsy which Etsy may change.

The 1 pound issue has always been a problem even before.  I like the way it is now frankly.  I prefer it.  It helps me as I said I only ship Priority/

The time frame for delivery is about the same or even a bit better for what used to be called First Class.

I don't think buyers know much yet about Ground advantage.

You don't have Priority at all so not chance a buyer can select it.

And the cost difference between Ground Advantage and Priority around the 1 pound mark is minisucle in my opinion that I would not choose Ground Advantage.

Just my thoughts.

Etsy has USPS ground listed as "no insurance" included.  They are purposefully lying because first class has a shorter shipping time.

They've already stated there goal is to reduce shipping time.

Never mind that lost or stolen packages comes out of our bottom line because there's no insurance included.  It's all about competing with Amazon and Ebay.

They don't care about us sellers.

ground included $100 of insurance.  First class does not.

Etsy need to change their verbiage for GA, but the rates shown are correct GA rates!  Until Etsy changes the verbiage, you need to enact all 3 services within your shipping profiles ... FCM and Parcel Select and Priority Mail.  The FCM & Parcel Select will ACT together as the Ground Advantage rate, and the PM gives buyers the OPTION to upgrade to that service upon checkout.  You can ship up to 70# with GA and it automatically includes tracking and $100 insurance.  Even if your buyer opts for FCM or PS, the label will print out as a GA label.  When the PM label shows, it is usually shows in in red as RECOMMENED, but that does not mean you have to select that service UNLESS your buyer actually paid for that upgrade at checkout.

When Setting up a new shipping profile, Etsy still has first class listed.  Ground advantage is only visible if you select the + at the bottom of ALL the shipping options.

ETSY has ground advantage listed as NO INSURANCE.

This has NOTHING to do with the rates.  So I'm not sure what you are referring to.

I've wondered the same thing. I would like to add that if you look at your shipping profile it still has First Class Mail but the insurance has been removed. I would also like to add that I had a customer's package go missing. Ground Advantage. When I tried to refund this label, there was no option. The only option for refunds are Priority Mails, etc.

If the label has been scanned by the post office, it has never let you ask for a refund because that postage has been used. Even if it gets lost in transit before delivery, you are not eligible for a postage refund. It sucks, but is the cost of doing business. I was able to cancel one this week that was Ground Advantage without any issue as it had not been scanned- customer wanted to add items to their order after I printed the label, but before I dropped it off so I canceled it as the postage amount needed to be updated.

I had that happen TWICE this week with orders going to Canada- they ordered first class shipping, but the priority option was automatically selected. I didn't catch it until after I purchased 2 $40+ labels that the buyer did not pay for. I canceled both, but now I get to wait weeks to get my $85 back. Beyond frustrating. I've been shipping to Canada since 2008 and until recently this was not auto selected this way. I had several others that I caught and switched before I purchased the label.

Super irritating.
