Hello everyone!
I'm having trouble logging in to etsy. When I created my account, I received backup codes for two-factor authentication. However, my profile was logged out several times. The backup codes are running out and I have no new ones and no apllication to create new ones! The problem is that there was no mention of any application when registering an account. If I am logged out, I will not be able to log in again. What should I do in this case? I've been writing to etsy support for two weeks. I'm trying to send them everything for verification, but I still don't have any response to even remove logging in using two-factor authentication.
Thank you in advance for your response.
When logged in, go to 2FA and turn it off. Link here https://www.etsy.com/your/account/security
Then turn it back on, you'll be able to select which method to receive the code and create more backup codes.
You should be able to log in with your password. The codes are for situations when you can't log in if you have forgotten your password.
@JJewellerySuppliesUK once turned on, 2 factor authentication requires username + password + code (for an extra layer of security). This helps to stop hackers who may have gained access to the first 2.
@Amaradorn I have 2 factor authentication but I don't need the codes to log in. They are for situations when you cannot log in.
@JJewellerySuppliesUK I have all my accounts to prompt for a code after password.
You can also click when your first sign in using 2FA to have your device bypass it for future log ins on that particular trusted device. This does not all work the same on all websites though, for example the UK gov website for HMRC will only save the 2FA on a trusted device for 7 days before it prompts again.
@CryzalisDesigns @Amaradorn Interesting. I rarely get the prompt to login though and certainly not every 30 days and I have yet to use a code. I always log in using the same device too.
Two-factor authentication is automatically enabled when you open a new shop on Etsy. With two-factor authentication, you’re required to enter your password and a verification code when:
@Amaradorn @JJewellerySuppliesUK @CryzalisDesigns In account security, when I turned off two-factor authentication, I received a message asking me to enter a 6-digit security code from the Authenticator App. I've never had an application like this for any account. But I used up the last backup code I got from Etsy and luckily it worked.

"Is call or text verification available in my country?"
"What is an authenticator app?"
"To set up an authenticator app when opening a new shop on Etsy.com"
There wasn't information about such an application when creating the account. So at first I didn't know what to do.
Thank you all!
Lots of smiles xx
@JJewellerySuppliesUK Sorry, I forgot that the code is only required when logging in on a new device as mentioned by @CryzalisDesigns (thanks). I rarely get prompted for it as I usually stay logged in. You said 'it was for when you don't remember the password' which confused me. I think you still need the password.
@ARMYATINYHOUSE I didn't know about the authenticator app. Looks like it's for countries that cannot receive the code via phone - since you are in a country which can receive the code via phone, I don't think you need to use it. However if it worked for you then that's great.
Why are you not receiving the code on your phone? (without the use of the app)
@Amaradorn I have no idea. I would have to check my phone service to see if I have this option turned off.
Everything is explained.
Thank you for your help.
@Amaradorn I could be wrong about the codes being used if you don't know your password. I think I thought that's what it was for if you couldn't get in or were hacked etc. I have never used any code but maybe I have been logged in for the whole time so haven't had a chance to see what happens.
Unfortunately, when logging in using e-mail and password, they require a security code from an application that I don't have.
@ARMYATINYHOUSE there is no 'application' to generate security codes. It's done on the website.
If you download the Google authenticator app, this will store all your 2FA accounts.
When you activate 2FA on Etsy, click the + on the authenticator app and scan the Code with your phone. This will add your Etsy 2FA to your lists of accounts.
Even when you lose or change your phone, your 2FA codes will transfer if you have them backed up on your google account.
When logged in, go to 2FA and turn it off. Link here https://www.etsy.com/your/account/security
Then turn it back on, you'll be able to select which method to receive the code and create more backup codes.
Then the only option is to contact Etsy, not sure you would want them to take a closer look at your shop
If you are able to log in, go to the security page (in your user profile settings, not shop) and you can either:
a) turn off 2-factor authentication
b) or turn off, then turn it back on again which 'should' regenerate a new set of back-up codes.
If you are not able to log in at all then you will need to wait for Etsy to respond to your Support request.
you will need to have access to the code if you want to turn the function off
Thank you all for your quick response! Have a nice day! x
@ARMYATINYHOUSE It's best not to rely on the back-up codes. They are for emergencies only when you don't have access to your phone/email. When you try to log in, the system will send a new code to your phone or email (whichever you chose when you set up 2 factor authentication). Use this code. If you don't have access to your phone/email then you need to fix that so it works correctly. If you run out of back-up codes, it will be because you are not using the system as it was intended to be used.
Hi there,
STORE NAME: ShopTheaStudio
My store (ShopTheaStudio) was suspended in error a few months ago and recently re-instated (with an apology from a senior team member at Etsy). During this time, I moved country and changed my mobile. I had completely given up hope on ever re-gaining access to my store, so it did not cross my mind to keep my previous phone sim card. Now that my store is open and my account re-instated - I cannot access my shop due to the phone number being incorrect and two factor authorization barring me from accessing my store.
I cannot use an authenticator app and the backup codes are not working - the only option I have is to receive a 6 digit code to my (non existent) mobile. I have reached out to Alessia Sartori, Etsy Senior MS Escalations & Appeals Specialist who originally re-instated my account, and have sent an additional 3 x customer service requests asking for help to de-activate the two factor authorization. It has been one month with no response.
I have started to receive multiple, daily orders again and I have no way to access my store or respond to customers. Can you please urgently help me....please!!
Thanks
Steph
