Translation technical issues

Hello,

I am encountering two technical issues regarding the translation of product sheets.

My main language is French. So all my product sheets were initially created in French.

Until now I always used the automatic translation . It worked fine but when I logged in as an American user, I noticed that the tags were not well translated. Worse, it offers tags that have no relation to the product being sold.

For example, I sell a USB stick with an engraving of an owl.
The associated tags that I see in English are totally inappropriate:
“Native two wolves necklaces”, “wooden Tiger pendant”, “hawk skull pendant”, etc.
I can understand why no one can find my product sheets!

So I wanted to try manual translation.
I started with the product sheet I talked about above (the owl USB Flash drive)

I deactivated automatic translation and looked in "American customer" mode, the title is translated well, the text too but the tags remain the same as before, even though I entered the new tags such as “wooden necklace”, “owl pendant”, “Usb flash drive” etc.

I waited 24 hours, thinking that maybe it was taking time to apply the new tags. But no, more than 24 hours later, I still have the inappropriate tags that I have never used for any of my product sheets...

Faced with this failure, I turned automatic translation back on. And it no longer works, my files remain in French in all countries. So here I am with the heavy task of translating all my product sheets

If anyone has a solution or encounters the same problems, please let me know.

(I should point out that all my product sheets have completely inappropriate random tags)

Thanks in advance for your help!

Re: Translation technical issues

I looked at your shop and the front landing page is in American English for me--for the MOST part. Some of the titles contain both French and English but I can understand them nonetheless. When I open a listing it is in French but there is a link that  one can click to translate to English--which I did and it works fine. Your tags do seem to relate totally to the item (a bracelet).   I hope this information helps you.

I am not "techie" enough to do much else. You may have to contact Etsy technical about this.  Good luck with that!

Re: Translation technical issues

Thank you for taking the time to look at my shop!
It reassures me to know that we can still access a translation.
What bothers me the most are the weird tags, but maybe I'm the only one who sees them? That would be good...

@RenardVolant: The 'tags' that you enter on your listing when you edit it and the 'tags' that are displayed on the customer facing listings are not necessarily related. Etsy puts there what they think will drive the buyer to additional sales.

The tags you enter as used primarily for search to find your product, there is no guarantee that they will be used for the 'related items' links that are placed on your listing.

Re: Translation technical issues

Those odd tags you are see are put there by etsy.  They think people searching for something like your item will also be interested in those other things.  This is why search here is a mess and full of stuff people aren't searching for but have to slog through until they give up and go elsewhere.

Re: Translation technical issues

@RenardVolant   Etsy has a test that is going around which are not your tags.  They are other tags.

Some buyers will see translated versions of your tags if they are not in the test.

Also Etsy does add related searches to listings.  Those are not under your control.

Re: Translation technical issues

Thank you all for your answers!

I understand that Etsy offers suggestions for buyers, which are likely to please.

But honestly, I don't know how they determine that because, for a necklace representing an owl, they offer wolves, ravens and no owls It makes so little sense to me.

One of the worst tags I've seen in my product sheets is "laser engraved jewelry", which is exactly the opposite of what I offer, all my engravings being done by hand, nothing but hand.. .
I think this is exactly how sellers selling oil or watercolor painted works must feel and Etsy directs customers to AI Art...

It makes me a little sick to see that we make efforts in order to find the best tags so that our products can be found and in return Etsy forces the customers to turn to a product that has nothing to do with it.
If I want to see owls, I don't want to see wolves, it makes so much sense, right? an AI should at least know how to do that.

I really hope that this is just a fleeting test and that it affects few people.

Thanks again taking time to explain me!
