Thumbnail cropping issue.

I guess i am not the only one who all of a sudden has issues with this. When i started on etsy a year ago it was all ok with the size i was using as i am currently using 1000x1000 photos. Anyone has found a solution for this problem as i think it impacts the look of the product alot.

Re: Thumbnail cropping issue.

Etsy recommend at least 2000 pixels on at least one dimension. Not sure if that will make a difference to your issue.

Re: Thumbnail cropping issue.

I thing for the first picture, a 4/3 ratio works the best. Minimum 2000 px

hope this helps:)

Re: Thumbnail cropping issue.

I used 4:3 for my photos for ages and then Etsy went to squares. My photos looked terrible because items were chopped off.

I started moving things to squares ... and now Etsy seems to use rectangles again.

I'm hanging onto the squares for the time being because they work as squares and as rectangles they have more margin.

I make sure that the shortest side of my pictures are at least 2000 pixels.

Re: Thumbnail cropping issue.

I use a rectangle for my images but don't put any inportant info on the left or right edges. That way when Etsy decides to have square thumbnails on any particular day or device, nothing gets cut off.

Re: Thumbnail cropping issue.

I have continued to size my photos at a 5:4 ratio, the previously recommended size, and ensure that the first photo also works as a square image.  I get the size right before uploading so I never have to fiddle with the thumbnail.

This strategy works best for me too. Shoot in 5:4 keeping in mind it needs to look good center-cropped to 1:1.

Re: Thumbnail cropping issue.

Thank you all! I tried 4:3 as well and that is not working also. when i first opened the shop it was all ok and photos were displaying properly. I think is a huge pity to take such a decision to mess with shops that have a large number of products.

Re: Thumbnail cropping issue.

Roughly I use 4600 x 3456 or about 1.7 MB.  I try to keep it under 2MB.   I use a digital camera.  Since using this camera my photographs have been pretty good for someone who is not a photographer in any sense of the word.

I use the thumbnail on some photos but not all.
