Many posts about this glitch - I haven't seen this in my shop yet, but in doing a bit of research on shops with listings affected, I've found the following -
* These listings show in shop search, as well as Etsy search - so they are not "deindexed" in the the usual sense.
*Once clicked on the thumbnail, it shows the error message "Sorry, this item is unavailable in your region"
* All the ones affected that I checked still show in the mobile Buyer App (the orange icon) - and you can click to view, add to cart, and (presumably) purchase.
* The glitch / bug applies to the mobile browser / desktop site - still shows "not available" when trying to view.
There doesn't seem to be anything Sellers can do, but if you happen to get a message from a Customer who intends to purchase, ask them to fave the item, and try viewing it on the mobile Buyer app.
Any other observations, comments from chat or support?
I deactivated and re-actived after a few minutes. It worked for a bit and then same message
My bikini listings affected. I have seen countless bikini listings affected. I've also seen countless listings unaffected that show Belly Button, Arm Pit Skin (which can look like something to a bot i assume), nipples, cleavage, lots of body and skin, nudity, naughty words.
On testing, I removed every bikini, swimwear, beach, etc related word from a specific listing and the listing would not work, cropped photo to where no skin folds, belly button, orofaces or anything could be seen and to no avail, the listing at this point just showed a zoomed in piece of the tops pattern and nothing in the listing any longer had anything to do with a bikini besides the main photo. I even changed the category to dresses. tags were removed. Basically other than the photo it should think this is a dress, but no luck.
I switched the main photo to the size chart and it was suddenly available... so luckily i did this testing on a listing that's never sold so after screwing up all of it's history with these idiotic tests to see what's wrong, i deleted the listing. I guess i'll wait a week to see if this fixes and if not just stop selling anything swimwear on etsy. Nobody is going to click on a size chart.
It seems following the rules is so hard, and breaking the rules is easier... I should probably just add some uncensored nipples to my photos so the bots stop hiding them...
Can you touch up the photos to reduce the shading on the cleavage?
@SmudgePlant i could but it's not worth the trouble if it fixes itself, or if it doesn't work, or if it only seems to work and I update everything for it all to get caught again. Or if a new problem comes up with borderline sexy listings again.
I understand. I'm sure this wasn't on your "To do" list today.
I also started my own thread on this topic, but I've been following this one too, so I'll repost my update. (I'm an author who sells signed copies of her romance books.)
It's definitely the new nudity bot, or whatever it is. I tried making a new listing, deactivating and reactivating, contacting support via chat...nada. I finally took a brand new picture to use as the thumbnail and made sure there wasn't even a hint of a body part in it, and bam, it works now. Ugh. Fingers crossed my other listings don't get hit!
I wish it was that easy for me. I sell photos so impossible for me to change the image. I also have a pattern website and the reviews will be lost for the item if I delete it and add a new listing. I tried all kinds of fixes none of them work for me.
I sell harnesses and I noticed 5 of my listing were down this morning (I'm from UK).
I changed the thumbnail photo and are now visible. All photos are made on mannequins so no nudes.
I searched for other harnesses and found the same issue in tons of listings of other shops.
This is about nudes/sexy stuff.
I'm selling paintings which are family friendly. It appears Etsy's bots take down anything with skin! Since I have mermaid art available, they have tops and tails. Apparently this is no longer allowed on Etsy. I am so darn frustrated. This site is getting ridiculous!
I've been having problems with this which have actually worked out in my favor this week. Two potential buyers clicked on my images who live within 50 miles of me. They received Etsy's pop ups saying my artwork is not available for sale to them in their area. This is of course MY area! Since Etsy has refused the sales, both individuals contacted me and asked how they could buy. I am doing direct sales with them both. Etsy is becoming very unprofessional.
I'm actually starting to get worried about this now.
In some ways I am glad of this glitch because it has reminded me of your beautiful shop. Edited to add - I checked out a lot of your mermaid listings and it seems to be affecting them intermittently. I can see all of the first page ones except the mermaid mother, daughter and pet one which only shows the backs of the mermaids.
@DollHeaven Thank you so much! I really appreciate you looking. I wonder if you can see more of them because you are out of the area I'm selling at this time?
The two shoppers who shared the error codes with me were in my country. And one was less than 50 miles away. They shared screen shots of the " this item is not available in your area" Etsy notification. When I checked, I received the same error code. Now I'm getting it with many of my shops items. I'm also seeing it in other shops who've posted the problem here. Hopefully this is a glitch and won't be an ongoing issues. You enjoy the rest of your weekend! Thanks again.
One of the two problematic listings in my shop is working now. First, I tried switching the pictures around so that the third one was displaying as the main picture instead, but that didn't work either. Next, I uploaded a new image (not the same image saved on my computer), and it worked. Am not sure how long it took though as I didn't check again until hours later. Just have to try it out on the second listing now. Try seeing if this works for you with a brand new image if you haven't tried it already.
@StitchRoundabout Thanks so much for sharing this! If you have time, can you give an update in a bit to let us know if those listings are still up? This is wonderful to hear.
@StitchRoundabout That's really good. But what would happen if someone didn't have a new image?
_____________
@NancyQstudio @PillowDetails StitchRoundabout, I'm beginning to wonder something. Remember when people noticed in search results, Etsy was changing the thumbnail photo on some listings. They were grabbing one of the other photos and putting them in the thumbnail position. I wonder if they knew about this glitch then, and were trying to see if the photo switch over would work. Just a thought, I'm not sure.
@NancyQstudioand @ChillwolfArt: Sorry to get back to this so late. Tried the same thing with the second listing, and it worked, so what I figured out was this ...
1. A similar word in the alt text text, listing title, and top part of the description does not "seem" to be causing the issue, but see if you notice any similarity between two or three of yours just to be sure.
2. Replacing the first image with the third picture does not fix the issue, so it's very possible that none of the photos in a problematic listing work. (I didn't try it for the second picture though, and the other pictures are of the yarn used in the pattern, so they wouldn't make sense for the first image.)
3. Uploading a new picture works. I didn't try re-uploading the original picture so am not sure if this will work. What I did was add a brand new image to both listings. This will likely be hard for many of you who don't have another image, so try re-uploading the original image to see if the process of re-uploading an image is what works.
4. I did change some other things in the Dylan scarf listing since I was updating it anyway but made no other changes in the Tadmor sweater listing so the other changes cannot be what fixed the issue.
If you'd like to check the two listings I changed to see if there are another other similarities between them and your listings, just type Dylan scarf or Tadmor sweater in the search box on the left of my shop's profile page under "Items" near the top.
Chillwolfart: That's an interesting theory. Am also wondering if it may relate to one of their tests. They seem to be experimenting with a lot of things lately. Sellers who use Chrome are finding that the description is still below reviews, for instance, but for those who use Safari or Firefox, it's now back in the original spot.
@ChillwolfArt: I see that you responded while I was editing my last paragraph, so please read that paragraph again.
@StitchRoundabout Using a desktop computer, Chrome; in your Shop Search, I typed Dylan scarf (no results found) I typed Tadmor sweater (I listing found).
For me (so far), I'm not getting the "Item not available in your region" blurb. And the Description has been back on the Right for at least the last couple of days.
@ChillwolfArt: Am baffled as to why the Dylan scarf isn't showing up in the search. The word Dylan is in the pdf title and SKU box just like the Tadmor sweater, and neither words appears anywhere else that I can see. Just added Dylan as a tag, but that didn't work either. If you search for merino wool scarf, it pops up then though. It's the gray one for men, not the red one. (My searches are via Firefox on a desktop computer.)
@StitchRoundabout Thank you very much!
@StitchRoundabout I'll go back and type merino wool scarf, and see if the grey one for men comes up. I'll be back:)
ETA: Now it comes up. I typed "merino wool scarf". Two listings come up; the grey one for men. And the red one for women. (same computer, Chrome).
Has anyone who is affected by this glitch, "atted" Admin ampersay (in Technical Issues). There are too many people having trouble, to it not to be a glitch.
@ChillwolfArt When I chatted with Etsy they weren't aware of any problems. They seemed confident the issue was on my end (plus the two shoppers who told me about it). After providing screenshots I was told to troubleshoot my issue. I was also asked to have the shoppers do the same and/or have them contact support.
@NancyQstudio I wonder if it's because Chat just isn't aware there is a problem.
