So when I come to the welcome page there is little circles with photos and suggestions to searches. One of them just so happens to be my shop name with a space, and then another without a space.
I click on the prettyvagrant one (without the space). Prettyvagrant is then shown in the search bar. This is also what someone would type if they wanted to see only my items.
Guess what? There are other shops items mixed in! None of these shops have tags that would even suggest that they are my shop. Why are you doing this to us???? It is also confusing to customers that want to look at items FROM A SPECIFIC SHOP.
I do hope this is a technical oversight
It's the new and improved "helpful" search that thinks it knows what else you need.
I'm convinced the AI is getting worse instead of better. Awhile back, I had an instance where I searched for an item, found something similar and bought it. Later on, while seeking something entirely different, stumbled upon the exact thing I was looking for - it should have been the #1 result but wasn't anywhere in my options (and not a new shop, vacation, etc.). I've had that happen twice more in the past couple of months. It's like they don't exist when I go to search for them specifically but only when I don't need them anymore....so bizarre. : (
This is how search works now.
If someone wants to go to your shop, they would either go directly there, or would click on the "see shops named" button that's suggested when typing in the search bar.
@PrettyVagrant The only comforting thing about it is YOUR shop is also coming up in their shops as well, so it works out.
It’s not a comfort because I don’t want it to. That’s not the shop name the person searched for.
In fact, it used to ask “do you mean the shop … with a link to the shop. Now it’s easy to miss wording.
Many people use the search bar to find a actual shop instead of the actual link to a shop
If they want to see only your items, they need to specifically choose only your shop to go into. If they just search your name in the search bar, it's going to show you and all related items. I see Adorabilities says this is how it works now, but I'm not familiar with it working a different way in the past?
It's like when I'm on my Target app. I buy the Atkins coffee protein shakes (trying to curb my love for sugary creamers). Yet no matter how many times I've bought the same ones, when I put 'atkins shakes' in the search bar, it shows me them, plus any other protein shake they have that I might like. If I want to see Atkins only, I need to go to their website. When I'm Target's site, they get to show me every one they carry. Etsy is like Target (for the sake of this argument). They are both the platforms and the general search is going to bring up anyone semi related.
I think the difference was before, they were actually trying to match keywords/tags. Now they have "similar" things or "you might have meant" things mixed in before they even get through all the exact matches.
If I try to search for my shop name, none of my items even come up for the first few pages, although I know no one is using "adorabilities" as a tag, except for me.
It used to ask “do you mean the shop…” and clicking on that took you to that shop. Now it is easily missed wording
Also before it only showed you items tagged with the shop name, but I guess they took that out of the new search result equation too.
It’s like target, but then again it’s not. Target has its own inventory. On Etsy the sellers do pay a fee to list their items.
That's why I put a link back to my storefront and one to the Section that product is in on every listing.

@moonbeamgifts"I'm convinced the AI is getting worse instead of better." Exactly!!!
Sorry everyone. I was super upset when I saw they changed how they treat out shop names in search now too.
forget I even posted and have a good night
There's no need to be sorry -- it's pretty frustrating not to see your items come up in search when you have tagged them specifically for that purpose.
There's just nothing we can do about it, unfortunately.
Oh I noticed this too a while ago. I was convinced the other shops must be using my shop name as a tag. In fact at one point Etsy was apparently ADDING visible tags as part of some kind of test. Now it's all done in the background. It's like there are our tags that we entered AND there are associated (ghost) tags that the AI applies but we don't see them. For instance, if lots of people who search for and click on your items also click on another shops items then an association is created. My shop sells a lot of Celtic style (jewellery) items so if I search for my shop name at one point I was seeing a lot of Celtic football team items!!! It's kind of hilarious and infuriating and same time.
