Tax ID's are required for international shipping to Spain and Italy. Etsy needs to add the collection of this data to their checkout.
Amazon is all too aware of the need for this so why would a site the size of Etsy not be also

Tax authorities in both countries require this information for customs clearance. The only way to obtain it is by messaging customers and hoping they reply. We have so many orders sitting there for weeks after repeated messaging. We cannot send these orders without this information as they are simply returned to us. Please can you add this to your site along with phone number collection, which is needed for almost all international deliveries and provides a far superior customer experience allowing customers to receive tracking information and updates regarding their orders.
