Stats are grossly inaccurate and implausible

I would like to use the stats to optimize my listings, but I find that they are so incomplete and implausible that no conclusions can be drawn from them. Some examples:

  • Etsy lists 119 visits from Search. But when clicking on the "Etsy Search" details, the search terms sum up to 22 visits.
  • On the same page, the graph showing the visits shows a single peak with 22 visits on Aug 1st 2023, and flatlines otherwise.
  • On the same page, the numbers in the "most visited listings" add up to 41 visits.
  • The total visits (not just from search) on the "Listings" page add up to 185, while on the stats overview they add up to 559, though I never deleted any listings.

I drew all these numbers from the "all time stats", so I think that a difference in update cycle cannot be the cause of the problem.

Am I the only one having these problems?

The all time stats use UTC time unlike the daily stats so that can create differences in what you are seeing.

Visits are listings and shop.

I know that time differences can impact these numbers when looking at individual days, but I don't think they could explain the massive differences I referred to.

As for the difference between product views and shop views - alright, that may cause a difference - but three times as many people look at my shop vs a product? That still wouldn't seem plausible at all.

Stats are definitely having issues. Saturday I had 84 views which is unheard of then I looked on Sunday for the previous day and it was down to 7 views or something like that. Definitely something wrong with stats.

@LeatherBookmarkShop: Looking at other threads in this forum, Etsy stats are suspect. In the case you cite, though, the most likely reason for the difference is that bot visits (search engines, third party seller tools, etc) were stripped out.

@LeatherBookmarkShop

Visits are not in real time, so are only accurate a couple of times a day (when stats update) or the next day.  Views are in real time so they contain bot views, etc. that need to be filtered out.  Since views are only filtered at the time of a stats update they too are only accurate at that time or the next day.

.Lots of weird things could have happened to the stats since August 2023.  Etsy has stats meltdowns every so often.  Things like all the stats saying zero or certain days saying zero.  The data usually gets restored, but not necessarily accurately.  From past experience, Etsy doesn't seem to think stats are all that important or necessary to sellers.

I don't take the stats too seriously until the following day because they are always at least a few hours behind and tend to not be as accurate until later.
