I have one message that is sowing a long response. The customer messaged me, and I responded. My error is that I accidentally initiated a new message thread to that customer instead of replying to his initial message. I didn’t do this on purpose. I spoke with someone at Etsy and he says that he can see my response and it was within the timeframe but since I created a new thread, there was nothing that can be done about this. I did mention to him that it has apparently been an issue because of the changes where Etsy now combines messages from the customer, so why aren’t they doing that with all messages? He said that it currently cannot be changed. Absolutely ridiculous. I’m still a star seller (and have been since star seller was created) but now with the current rolling 3 months, my message response percentage dropped from 99% to 96%. I only had 99% instead of 100% because of this one message. Every other message has shown a timely response. I’m thinking about moving to another platform, etsy doesn’t seem to ever be on the seller’s side of things. Saying that changes cannot be made for this kind of situation.
I'm sorry about that. Yes, it counts your Responses from within the same Message Thread.
Even better is losing star seller for me not responding to a "Thank You" someone sent for an item I bought from them.
Just mark it as spam, and your level will go back up.
The whole process is managed by AI filters. Etsy has always maintained that no manual changes will be made once the badge result has been decided. You can try marking the unanswered message as spam now, and within a couple of days the stats should update to reflect this, so that your score is back on track for next month's badge assessment. It MAY work, many have had success, but from what I have read, if the unanswered message was a Help Request, you may not be able to mark it as spam, simply because a Help Request, by definition, ALWAYS requires an answer.
The whole SS program is inherently flawed, simply because most of the metrics are out of the control of the seller, and bear little to no relevance to true customer service. However, with all due respect, your reaction (moving to another venue) is overkill. You still got the badge this month, and in all likelihood will still get it next month from what you say. If you value the badge that much, why would you throw it away, just because you were marked down on one metric, but still made the cut. That's a bit like throwing the baby out with the bathwater.
I don’t know…their system is glitchinghard and out of control. I DID mark a messageI had as spam and it still counted it as a lack of reply and stripped me of my star seller. A system requiringcomplete perfection from the seller is neither attainable nor acceptable. I’m not a machine.I answered ALL my messages, I have no shipping and have straight 5 star reviews yet lost my star seller over a spam messagethat WAS marked as spam.
I appreciatethe advice and input. My issue with Etsy is not just about this badge. It’s about how they continue to manipulate the sellers. They have never had my side and just basic communication is horrible. In Nov 2021, they delisted my entire shop because they felt I had too many sales and thought that I wouldn’t be able to fulfill them (which I did,on time). I don’t need a marketplace to police me before anything happens. It’s like being pulled over because it looks like you are going to speed.
