I had three spam messages this month where they stated they wanted me to hand over my Etsy shop to them for a $300 fee. I disregarded them and now I didn’t get star seller this month. That doesn’t seem fair to me.
You need to put them into spam
Don't just disregard them, you should put them in spam.
Click the SS link on your dashboard and read the requirements. All you had to do was send them to spam.
Just the first message in the thread counts, not the ongoing convo.
Messages that you mark as spam don’t count.
Those messages are spam. Mark them as such, do not simply disregard them because that will count against you. Go back and mark them as spam now, and they should correct your stats from this point forward, Nothing you can do about the badge just awarded. Etsy will not make adjustments retroactively.
That is why we have a "mark as spam" option. Those messages were clearly spam. It just takes a moment to mark them as such.
Etsy doesn't know those messages are spam unless you tell Etsy they are spam. Mark them as SPAM, and the problem is solved. Etsy won't count them towards your Star Seller score.
If you are using the app to run your shop I believe there is no spam option, It is better to use a browser when checking mail, that way you are also aware of messages "from etsy" and know which messages are scams too.
Etsy states that all first time messages need either a response or get marked as spam and you decided to ignore it instead. How is it unfair to get dinged for not doing what you needed to do to get your SS badge? Etsy made it very clear what was needed and you chose not to do it so you got dinged.
Hi there!
I am new to all of this and was looking for help. I didn’t expect such an angry reply. Have a great day!
@ThePinkBunny: The Star Seller metric for messages is very simplistic and binary - either you replied to (or marked as SPAM) that first message of a new incoming thread within 24 hours or you did not. And by your own admission you choose not to do so.
A controversial workaround : if the unanswered new thread is not a Help Request, at least for the time being, it appears that marking an unanswered new thread as SPAM (even after the 24 hour deadline has passed) will cause your reply percentage to change in a day or two (but not retroactively) if the original message was within the current star seller period. Note that subsequent messages from that account may go directly to the SPAM folder.
Unless something has changed recently, you can only mark a message as SPAM using the buyer app or a browser, the option is not available in the seller app.
Thank you for your help!
