does missing one message because of a horrible storm that left many of us in Ontario without power for days, mean I will lose my badge for next month because I could not respond as my phone was dead?
@VikisVoodooDolls Things happen, how does that make the program flawed?
The program is automated so you either meet the criteria or you don't.
it happened to us, 4 days with no power, in February, it was also chucking it down with rain, and very cold.... and we have no mobile signal anyway.
I must admit though, I didn't give a fig about the star seller, I was trying to find ways of keeping warm, getting hot water, and hot food
no electric = no heating, no cooking, no lighting
It sucks, and I sympathize. But what would you have Etsy do? Blindly believe sellers when they say their internet was down? Investigate every claim of network failure to assure the seller is telling the truth? On any given day, there are numerous 24-hour network outages worldwide, some small-reaching, some large.
We are talking about a site with over 4 million sellers spread over 200 countries. Can you imagine either choice being a good one?
I guess there is no way to moderate it ....
I really feel for you.
We had a blizzard a few years back. We had no phone (including landline), no electricity, and no running water for 3 days. We were so rural, our lines only affected the 3 houses in our canyon. So we weren't a priority to either the electric or phone company, who aimed first at getting power and phone back to the more populated regions before trying to fix ours.
Many sellers are losing the SSB for different reasons. In my opinion it was created to stir up negativity and frustration in sellers.
I believe it was created to get slack sellers to up their game and create more trust in etsy as a whole. If sellers weren't shipping on time, or answering messages, they now need to if they care about the SSB.
@VintageRescueSquad What I found amazing was the discovery of how many sellers weren't shipping on time or bothering to return messages. It shouldn't have surprised me, since I've had both things happen on Etsy. I just assumed they were anomalies.
Although there was one seller in particular that I remember from years and years ago. In his announcements, he stated he was too busy creating to deal with messages. He also had the attitude of "you will get it when you get it". He did have really unique and beautiful products that seemed much in demand, but he topped it with horrible customer service.
I ordered from one seller a few months ago who admitted they "forgot" about my order because they were so busy.
The items were no made-to-order or handemade. They were vintage.
It took weeks to get my package.
@VintageRescueSquad That would be unacceptable to me.
Recently I've been buying some vintage dishes to replace some we'd broken over the years. Coffee cups, bowls, plates, etc. I found the items on Ebay through various sellers. They have all been remarkably fast in shipping items, often same day. And everything has arrived in very condition. I think that is the kind of service Etsy wants, rather than the "I'll ship when I get around to it" attitude some sellers have.
You will never get a sympathetic ear on the Etsy forums ....ever. Its very bitter here. So let me try and make you feel better. The star seller doesn't matter one bit. That storm was brutal as one of the people that work for me lives in Ottawa. He had no power for 3 days and it was rough up there. I do feel bad and its tough to lose the star seller over something as silly as that. Star seller again isnt worth worrying about in the least. I hope you are doing better and I hope you didn't get too much damage from the storm.
