There are 2 messages from someone I bought from in October that are impacting my Star Seller score even now in December. These were messages the seller sent me thanking me for shopping with them. There was no need for me to reply to that. NOW those emails are still keeping me from getting my Star Seller in November and December. My response rate, shipping speed and customer feedback to and from MY customers is immediate and excellent. This is an unfortunate and unfair setting that Etsy should fix.
Unfortunately those count...all first messages count. You can try marking them as spam but at this point not sure that will still remove them. If you get a seller message either reply Thanks! Or mark it spam. October data is COUNTED for the star you get January 1st for the month of January..Oct/Nov/Dec data is counted. It drops off your dashboard in January for your February star which is Nov/Dec/Jan data.
There's nothing unfair about how the responses are rated. You just have to answer the first message whether from buyer or seller.
The SSB for this month covers Oct. Nov. and Dec. First of January those October missed messages will drop off.
It always helps if sellers read the rules that Etsy so conveniently puts out for us on the Dashboard when something new starts.
From day one of SSB, the rules have been that you must answer the first message in a thread within 24 hours - the rules specifically state whether from buyer or seller - not just answer the ones "seller" thinks are important.
There is no where in the rules where a seller is just supposed to respond to "their" customers.
ALL MESSAGES means ALL MESSAGES regardless of who they are from.
You would think that we shouldn't have to keep repeating this information as the program has been in effect for 1-/2 years.
It would be nice if all posters that complain about the SSB would go back and read the rules - it's a little late in the game, but it's never TOO late!

Thank you for the helpful and positive post. While I do understand the policy, I don't agree with it. My buyer's experience is not related to my personal purchasing experience and thus the policy just doesn't make sense in my opinion; especially if the messages are spam. It's easy to remedy though by a simple reply. Thanks again.
It would be NICE if posters here would stop chastising other sellers who post something they are upset about ..SS or otherwise. You don't have to reply or if you do you can lead with kindness. Should they have read it? Yes but not everyone catches everything.
