I received a score of 88%. It appears that I replied to buyers question regarding the availability of an item by turning my response into a custom order. I did indeed respond and responded very timely. Because of this I did not earn my start seller badge. Not sure this actually fair! How can this be rectified?
It can’t be rectified. You must reply to all messages.
There is nothing to rectify, if the buyer contacted you through the Etsy message system for a custom order, you must respond within 24 hrs to let them know you will send them a custom order. The order itself is not a reply to the original message. I have to say, half of my orders are custom and I can't recall a situation where I was able to create a custom order without getting more information from the buyer first.
@NoMiWoodArt: If you are creating a custom listing based on a new thread, you still need to reply to the actual message. Etsy is now putting a blue text warning / advisory (blue banner on desktop, and a blue dot on mobile) on those messages they consider to be a "new message" but should semantically be called a "new thread".

All of the info is on your dashboard where it has been for 18 months. You have only yourself to blame.
