I recently sold a custom order and per my business policy, require a deposit for order. I created a listing for the customer as per our discussions and she promptly paid. When I went to "complete" the order, I chose the option "this order doesn't have tracking - local pickup" because this purchase was the initial retainer for the custom order I was hired to complete. Now, due to choosing that option, my star seller stats for shipping are down to 95% from 100%. I personally take a lot of pride in my fast and on-time, ahead of schedule shipping so this is a blow! How can this affect my shipping response stats when it was marked as a customer pickup (because there's obviously no option listed for custom order deposit)? How is it fair to penalize sellers on orders where they're not actually shipping a product, like in this instance? Please advise on how to proceed. I am concerned about losing the star seller badge over an issue that is not at all indicative of my actual performance as a seller. Thank you!

This is exactly how the Star Seller program has always worked. Have you never read the Star Seller rules?
From the Help Center:
All physical listing orders must include a valid tracking number or a shipping label purchased on Etsy to be considered for a Star Seller Badge. At this time, we’re unable to make exceptions for local pickup orders.
Etsy is pretty clear about how local pickup or delivery works with star seller here in help center page about star seller
https://help.etsy.com/hc/en-us/articles/4403058372503-How-to-Become-a-Star-Seller-?segment=selling
"What if I offer local pick-up or delivery for my items?
At this time, orders that don't have tracking because they are delivered or picked up in person will be considered shipped without tracking, and will not meet the Star Seller criteria for shipping. "
Im not sure how they can be any clearer.
It may be a good idea to read/review all the info Etsy provides about star seller.
Because you are in the USA, you can send a small envelope via Pitney Bowes with the receipt in it. When purchase via Etsy it counts as tracking towards your Star Seller metric.
They won't adjust your metrics retroactively, but keep this in mind for next time.
Ooo How do you get one of these through Etsy? Thanks!
You could have put the same tracking number on both the deposit and final payment, that would have worked as well.
During the holiday season I had 2 people give me 2 and 3 stars, which lowered my overall rating below 4.8,so no star seller rating for me. The thing is, both customers knew exactly what they were getting in the products they bought, they both acknowledged that, but they need to say it and give me a lower rating. I offered both a full refund, but they didn't want it. So they exactly what they were getting, and still complained which lowered my rating. This doesn't seem fair to me. Anyone can just complain, and shoot down your rating, and thus lower sales.
@GreatShotPhotosLLC Your shop has a few other problems besides a couple of low reviews. Since you're posting on someone else's OP and your situation doesn't relate to tracking, perhaps asking for a Shop Critique would be advisable.
Someone else's "OP" What's that? I went looking for help for Star seller help, and this was all I got. I did ask ask for a Shop Critique, but got nothing but requests to review other shops. Perhaps you could show me where I could get help with this issue? Also, what other problems are you referring to?
