Hi, any time you are not the Initiator of a Message, you must respond or Mark as Spam. It could be a friendly Message from another Seller ("How's it going"?). It sill counts as needing a response or Mark as Spam; you did not Initiate it. That's the best way to remember it.
I've only ever had one account (the same for buying and selling). If a Seller Messages me, I would reply Thank You for example. Should I get TRUE Spam ("Buy my gems 10% off"), into Spam it goes.
Hope this helps you.

@MotherRealm As explained on your Star Seller Dashboard, the rule is very simple: , EVERY initial incoming message (from ANYONE) requires a REPLY or to be marked as SPAM.
Whoever gave you different information from that did not give you accurate information.
I'm aware of having to reply no matter what, that is not my issue. My issue is new incoming messages have come in and my % has not gone up.
@MotherRealm: Check the applicable CSV file from your Star Seller page to see which messages Etsy is counting. Keep in mind that the file (and Star Seller) is in UTC not your time zone, only the first message of a new incoming thread counts, and a new thread may not appear until after the 24 hour reply window has passed - and sometimes longer - regardless of when you replied to the message.
This cumulative across a 3 month period. You need to respond to or mark spam every message unless the message comes from ETSY Admin. Any response is acceptable.
Your message response rate stat is based on:
