I shipped out several packages that were due to go out on Labor Day, Sept 5th, the following day. USPS, UPS etc were closed on the Sept 5th so there was no way to ship anything out. But all the shipments were marked as late shipments and counted against my percentage.

I had a 4th of July shipment that shipped the day after the holiday as well. In July and August that shipment was not included in my tally. I assumed that Star Seller made allowances for holidays. As of September that Jul 4th shipment is also showing as late and counted against me.

It seems the only solution moving forward is to make a label to ship on the holiday even though it will not actually ship. That of course seems very dishonest.

Even better would be for Etsy to account for holidays that are set well in advance and project more accurate ship by dates. If that is not possible, then Star Seller should not penalize for not being able to ship on a holiday when there is no way to ship on that holiday.

As@PersonalizeStation said, "I'd prefer Etsy do less to try and manage my shop. ". Every order we received that had Labor Day as the scheduled ship date we immediately changed the scheduled ship date to September 6th even if we were sure the order would ship before then. Less stress than worrying if Etsy got the holidays right for our country.

Most likely by running country-specific sites instead of a worldwide site like Etsy.

@FallsAveVintage  @PaperBuiltShop

Amazon has 19 country-specific websites.  There is actually no one Amazon website.

ebay has 22 country-specific websites.  There is actually no one ebay website.

However, there is one Etsy and it serves 83 countries.

^^

My thoughts exactly.

Etsy can barely run a test without goofing something up on one site. I guarantee if they could do it and it got all whacky (my money is on that it would), many sellers complaining now still wouldn't be pleased.

mostly, because they are based in 1 country,

so Amazon USA, has USA holidays only
Amazon UK has UK holidays only
amazon France has French holidays only.

Etsy is 1 worldwide site, so the worldwide holidays would have a holiday every day

Can you imagine relying on Etsy to correctly keep up to date with postal holidays in 83 countries?  No thank you.  I'm fine with managing my own shipping dates.

You could also add another day or 2 to your processing times so you're not caught by surprise with a holiday. Just a thought.

I just had a package due to be shipped on Labor Day so I extended the ship date by 1 day with a note to buyer that Etsy doesn't count legal holidays. Took less than a minute.

Holy heck, if some of the people here were responsible for technology, I'd be taking a horse and buggy to UPS this morning.

Etsy has integrated with post offices in many countries which gives them holidays auto. Have a hard time believing people can't understand this.

Etsy uses the estimated DELIVERY times for actual delivery, from the post offices, these take into account holidays, and also any delays in the from-to route, but etsy doesn't do the calculation, it just picks up the days from the shipper....... and it only does this for 5 countries, and some shippers

and this would only work, IF you have a carrier selected, which I don't , as Royal mails delivery dates are way to over-optimistic

It does nothing with DISPATCH dates, that's taken from the processing days on the listing

@FallsAveVintage Etsy might be 'integrated' with many postal services but that doesn't mean anything ... in Australia we have different holidays in every state for different things. We even have different holidays celebrating the same thing like the Queen's birthday.

Don't you think if it were easy and affordable that Etsy would have done it by now?

I personally think there are many important things Etsy can do to improve. Putting in a whacky, flawed system to work around a bazillion global holidays because some sellers cannot manage their processing times/dispatch dates around them is not one of those things, in my opinion.

@PersonalizeStation I love jumping in on these posts. It's not about what Etsy can or can't do, it's about the jerk responses people get when they have the audacity to question or complain about something that would be helpful to them that others deem insignificant. It would've have been just as easy to respond to the OP with a little sympathy. Instead, we (happened to me too) get a boatload of snarky responses.

There are only two ways to work around this: extending processing times prior to a holiday or extending the ship-by date. I'm not sure how anyone can be more helpful besides explaining that.

We see this type of post several times after every federal holiday. They all end up about the same "why can't Etsy do it?" Then everything just spirals, I guess.

It just strikes me that the uproar didn't seem to be as bad over this issue until SSP was created. That leads me to believe many sellers (not pointing towards OP) would just ship the day after a holiday and not worry about it. Suddenly, it matters.

Tones are difficult to read at times so if I personally sounded snarky, I wasn't trying to be : - D I do see where you're coming from.

I am always much more worried about all of the negative side effects when something is "fixed". And Etsy still does not always calculate the ship by date correctly - an order dated 11:01 pm Sunday night has a ship by date 1 day earlier than an order dated 10:59 pm Sunday.  Yes I know if it because of time zones but still ... It is my shop and my responsibility to manage things such as when I will ship by. All I ask for is working tools to do that. If I can't ship by the date Etsy calculated (correctly or incorrectly) I can change it.
