A buyer messaged me twice in two separate threads. I responded to her after 30 minutes in one of the threads. I am not a star seller because I didn't respond to her other thread which had the same exact message.

Yup, this is how it is set up. You have to respond to every single first thread regardless of how many or the context, been this way from the start. Some say marking it as spam will help, I had this happen as well and spam did not correct the multi thread and I was concerned about not getting convos as this was actually a returning buyer.
Spend time here in the forums this is discussed absolutely non stop and the first of the month start the conversations again. Just to note if make a purchase and a seller thanks you, respond to that as well it will be held against you as well. It is a bummer to learn this the hard way, take a spin through the qualifications list again just to be sure you are following the guidelines, or just don't worry about it. I have had every single month but one since it was introduced and have seen zero change or impact on my shop. I also do not make purchase decisions based on someone being a star seller or not.

Re: Star Seller Incorrect Stat
The star seller criteria is very clear. You must respond to ALL messages or mark as spam.

Re: Star Seller Incorrect Stat
@AlexisJaeJewelry: Probably almost everyone on this forum can sympathize with you but a quick search would show you innumerable threads about your exact issue. As it says right on your Star Seller page, you need to reply to the FIRST message of a NEW THREAD.
It does not matter who sent it, the subject matter, if it is a duplicate or blank or anything else. If it is SPAM then it should be marked as such. Those have always been the rules.
At least for the time being, it appears that marking an unanswered message as SPAM (even after the 24 hour deadline has passed) will cause your reply percentage to change in a day or two if the original message was within the current star seller period (but not retroactively). Note that subsequent messages from that account may go directly to the SPAM folder.
