I have a fair amount of local customers that pick up orders from the shop. I log them out as a pick up up am being penalized in obtaining a star seller rating as there is no tracking. Of course there is no tracking if it is a customer pick up. Is there anyway around this major issue? Any ideas anyone? Thanks
There is no way around this issue. Etsy has stated that hand delivering will penalize for star seller. Etsy's concern is tracking and that tracking number is proof that the item was actually delivered.
Hand deliver negates seller protection btw.
Sadly you are right, I have them sign off on a pickup receipt but that is probably not enough for etsy.
You can…
1. buy an Etsy label and send them a printed receipt.
2. Cancel the original order and make a new listing as a digital download for their purchase (which you convince them to do as a way to save shipping costs). —you will likely lose any protections, but you don’t really have them anyway if you’re hand delivering.
3. resign yourself to never having a star.
Sounds like Etsy has decided to make tracking a part of their sales system, which makes sense in many ways. I include shipping with all the orders and it can easily run 20% of the cost of the item, so saving money and potential shipping damage is a big incentive for local delivery/pick up. Plus bringing the customers into the showroom to see other products to buy is valuable on its own. Thanks everyone for your feedback and ideas. I can think of a few workarounds to try that are kind of silly but if that is what Etsy wants, then so be it.
