Spam Messages

Jump to solution

I’ve just checked my message history & 3 of the messages that are marked as not replied to in 24 hrs are spam - I have just read that they need to be marked as such however I didn’t realise I needed to do this as Etsy usually does this before I can even reply. Is there a way to get this reviewed??

Mark them as spam and they might fall off, depending on how long it's been.

Etsy has said that they will not manually adjust anything having to do with star seller.

Yes, but there is so much spam. It comes to my inbox every day. It's becoming exhausting. Why can't Etsy prevent this?

@yourHIGHnesssupplier: Etsy has stated that they will not manually adjust Star Seller stats and in this case there is nothing to 'fix'. The Star Seller metric for messages is very simplistic and binary - either you replied to (or marked as SPAM) that first message of a new incoming thread within 24 hours or you did not.

If the unanswered new thread is not a Help Request, at least for the time being, it appears that marking an unanswered new thread as SPAM (even after the 24 hour deadline has passed) will cause your reply percentage to change in a day or two (but not retroactively) if the original message was within the current star seller period. BUT BE WARNED that according to Etsy "You won’t receive any new messages from that member, and they’ll be unable to reply to messages in an existing thread." https://help.etsy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360000343128-How-to-Handle-Scams-and-Suspicious-Messages

Unless something has changed recently, you can only mark a message as SPAM using the buyer app or a browser, the option is not available in the seller app.

While you are reading about messages, you may want to re-read Etsy's Terms of Use (TOU) you agreed to when you opened your shop.

@yourHIGHnesssupplier

no, Etsy doesn't do this for you.

You have to either reply to the normal messages within 24 hours, or

mark the bad ones yourself as spam within 24 hours.

You can still mark them as spam now, so they they don't contact you again.

Here is a read for you:
