Hello everyone. I hope you all ok.
I'm a new seller on Etsy. So, im a little bit confused about messages which it comes to me when i add new listing. It is about my personal e-mail. Firstly, a costumer send me a message like "can you help me?". Then, somebody who named by "Etsy Staff" send me a message like "you should write chatbox your e-mail adress". I'm not sure about it is really come from staff team. This is the third time this has happened.
What do you think? What should I do?
Best regards,
Ozdemir.
scams.
etsy messages from etsy support will show in the newly created "from etsy" folder.
@ZonksTextile Hi, Welcome to Etsy! I'm sorry you were targeted by a scammer. Please note the following as well. If someone claims they are a Buyer and they need your email because you made a sale, it's a scam. Do not engage with them, and Mark the Message as Spam (just so you don't get dinged for Star Seller). When you get a TRUE sale, the Order will appear in your "Orders & Shipping" Page (in the Shop Dashboard). No where else.
I will be back with the Announcement about the new "From Etsy" Folder and other scams.
Here you go.

Hope this helps.
I got a message from someone and when i cliked on the Send button to answer it came this message on the screen:
"The member name you entered does not belong to a valid Etsy user."
Would you be so kind and tell me what this means? Is it maybe a scam!
Thank you for your help!
@OlhoMarinhoIt means Etsy caught the scamming account and removed it before you reply to the message.
This has been happening to me and now I honestly feel unsafe selling things on Etsy.
@CharmedByDesignCA I'm very sorry. There has been an infestation of scammers, targeting new Sellers as well as seasoned ones. Many new Sellers get targeted shortly after putting up a listing. They may also try to get you to click on unsafe links within Etsy Messages. Whatever you do, don't click.
These scammers are also trying to impersonate Etsy Staff/Support. They are banking on Sellers falling for it. Anything which does not come from the "From Etsy" Folder, is NOT Etsy Staff/Support. So don't click or engage. Don't forget to Mark as Spam (only so you don't get dinged for Star Seller). I really do wish there was a Mark as Scam option as well (scam is completely different from spam, but we don't have that option).
I hope this is helpful to you. Don't let the scammers scare you. Many times, they really aren't that bright:)
It's not just an Etsy thing, it is an internet wide thing that you will have to deal with if you are going to use the Internet.
Dont open emails from anyone you don't know or expect. If you think it is from a site you deal with regularly, like Etsy, don't click any links in the email or reply. Instead, mark it Spam and go to the web site the way you normally get there, and check the From Etsy folder on your messages dashboard in the case of Etsy. Most websites will have a copy of their email message on the actual website somewhere.
If you think an email is from a site like Etsy, check the email headers carefully. Usually the address of the sender is off by one character, or from a department that website doesn't have.
If you click a link in an email, it may take you to a fake website that looks just like the real one, where the spammer will try to steal identity or financial information. If you reply to the email, that validates your email address, so the spammer will likely then sell your email address to other spammers.
Trust me it's not just happening on Etsy, I was targeted today via my Facebook business page.
Scammers and spammers will target any seller, anywhere, on any selling platform. You need to learn to protect yourself from phishing attempts and online scams.
Never open links in an email, never give out your email to anyone requesting it.
Anyone asking for your email address via Etsy messages is a scammer, simply mark them as spam and ignore them, do not interact with them, and do not give them any information at all, especially your email address.
I had a message from someone (because of a post/reply of mine on this forum they read) this morning via Etsy messages that was suspicious, especially as they purposely misspelt a couple of words (a typical trait of scammers to avoid spam filters), alarm bells went off, so I marked it as spam and ignored it/the person.
Why do they want your email address?
@FordiesEmporium They want your e-mail address so they can take the conversation off Etsy. They will then send you e-mails with links to a very real-looking, but completely fake Etsy site, sometimes complete with chat, asking to verify your financial information. And then they will rob you blind.
