I had a video for a long time in a listing and just noticed it has been replaced with another shop's video. My listing is for an original painting on wood and the video is of someone's Armor of God tumbler. What?!?!
Yes, this sometimes happens apparently, there have been other forum reports of it. After taking screen shots and reporting to Etsy as NancyQ below suggests, you could try removing the video for a day or two. Then give the video a different name, something fairly long and complicated with a few special characters, and then upload it again.
The thought is that this occurs if two sellers give their videos the same name. Etsy renames seller photos to make sure they’re unique, but apparently they don’t do this with videos (weirdly). The first time I saw this reported, the surprise video was of an “adult” item. Definitely not a great thing to have happen in your shop!
@PieceByNumberQuilts2 That's interesting. Thank you for sharing this because it's the first I've read about it.
I don't name any Etsy videos or photos because I assumed they were all renamed. I'll have to keep a close eye out on this.
@NancyQstudio The duplicate video names is only a hypothesis in the forums, Etsy hasn’t confirmed it. But I think it’s a real possibility here, given some of the cowboy coding.
I have always named my photos but not my videos. Thank you.
I've always named my photos (and videos). I keep them on my laptop, organized into a variety of folders so I can find them. I usually delete them when the item sells (unless it's an awesome photo I might want to use for a jury photo someday).
@LindaFehlenGallery I name my photos for other sites and social media. But, since Etsy replaces these, I don't rename my photos on this site. For photo protection, I develop copies of my higher quality images for Etsy listings.
If Etsy's not renaming the videos, there may be an additional benefit with naming these. I'm not sure but this would make sense.
Oh no! I would take a screenshot of the listing that includes a snapshot of the video. Contact Etsy support and let them know this is happening. This is very problematic. Etsy's glitches have been growing which is a concern.
Update: I was posting the same time as the post above. It's more relevant. I would still report this to Etsy so they can hopefully work on the programming issue.
Thank you. I will screenshot and report.
Unfortunately, I just recently deleted the video from my devices since I've had it for so long and needed to make storage room. It was one of my best ones since it was me actually painting one of these pieces and sped up. I have such a hard time getting the camera setup right that I rarely do these. ugh.
@LindaFehlenGallery That's awful! I know how hard these are to make. It's unfortunate that this is the video impacted. I'm sorry to hear this.
@LindaFehlenGallery: Before you panic, just because the wrong video is showing to (some?) users, it does not mean that the correct video is not still attached to your listing. You could check by looking at the listing in <Edit> mode and possibly download it to a local device.
Thank you @BagmakerSupply I have checked in Edit mode and unfortunately it seems to be gone. There is always hope though.
