Dear Etsy Support Team,
I’m reaching out again and now on the forums to see if others are experiencing the same issue i am, regarding a recurring issue with my Etsy shop, ContempoLA.
When I search for my shop by name using the Etsy search bar, it no longer appears in the results. I had previously contacted you about this, and on April 22nd, my shop finally began showing up again in search — which resulted in a normal, healthy day of sales and views.
However, since then, I’ve noticed a steady decline: my items began disappearing from search visibility day by day. As of now, my shop and listings are once again completely unsearchable under the shop name “ContempoLA,” and I am experiencing significantly reduced traffic and sales.
I also wanted to point out that when you do search my shop - the SAME items pop up - so the search engine does not change daily or even hourly. It stays the same. This is the same when others search my shop as well. These 'Marilyn cardigan sweaters' come up...Which, about a month ago (when the this problem started happening) I sold a vintage 50s authentic cowichan sweater and now these 'Marilyn sweaters' are showing up when you search for my shop name in search.
Why doesn't shop name's ITEMS come up when you search for them? This has a drastic impact on NOT BEING ABLE TO FIND SHOPS. I would greatly appreciate it if you could look into the search indexing for my shop and others help ensure it remains discoverable by name.
I and other shops look forward to your help in resolving this.
So you are searching for your shop name daily and it was showing your items in results? Maybe if you weren't clicking on your items, the search bot thinks your items aren't relevant to you and no longer shows them and now you see other items.
when I searched for contempola, nothing happens when i click on "do you mean the shop..." in the automatic suggested dropdown. BUT... above the search results for your shop name it asks "Did you mean the shop..." with an active link. I dunno... I think that might be good as well. And in the top line of search results, there are items from both your shops.
You do have issues with your shop being incomplete to meet EU compliancy tho. Not sure if that constitutes an incomplete shop issue that could supposedly lead etsy to downgrade your shop in search?
ps, I was expecting your shop to be located in LA.
I made sure not to go to your shop first to taint the results and typed your shop name into search. Not only did I get a variety of your items in my search, it did ask me if I wanted to go directly to your shop, so for me, your shop and listings are not completely unsearchable. I saw your purses, earrings, sweaters, blouses, skirts, jackets....
Are you making sure that one of your tags in each of your listings is your shop name as well? I add my shop name to each listing so when customers search it the results are majority my items.
thank you for checking! You are very kind to help.
@ComtempoLA I can still see the tags in listings input by the seller and I checked a few of your listings and I didn't see any tags with your shop name, so you may just want to double check.
@PoochandTabby "...I made sure not to go to your shop first to taint the results and typed your shop name into search...."
I did the same. When searching "ContempaLA" from the Etsy search bar, 19 items on the first page of search results were from @ContempoLA
thank you for trying. I wonder why my items don't come up on my end anymore? They used to. And, last week when they did (for only a day) I had normal/high sales for that day only... I am only concerned because not seeing my shop items in search (when searching my shop name) coincided with extremely low sales and views---which has never happened for THIS long in my shop. Are you all experiencing low sales and views for the last month or so?
Oops, wrong spot
I use one of the tags as my shop name in every listing.
yes, so do i. that's why it's confusing that if someone searches for my shop, my items don't show up right away - or if - at all.
I typed in your shop name and your items came up.
In that list, when I clicked on the search bar again it suggested your shop.
When I clicked on "did you mean ContempoLA" it took me to your shop.
A note on how search works:
If you are using your shop name as a tag, the search engine will first suggest those items that have that as a keyword.
It won't assume it's a shop name because you have 1,230 items with that keyword. And, you have almost 10,000 sold listings with a history of that keyword (assuming you used your shop name as a tag).
If you didn't use it as a keyword in the beginning, it would suggest the best match - your shop.
i'm confused. sorry. I use my shop name in each listing's tag once. You use to be able to search just the shop name - contempola - and that shop's items would appear for your search. now, none of my shop's items appear - other people's items show up. Yes, underneath search bar it does say 'do you mean the shop contempola" and you can click on that and see my shop. I know that. It's hard for poeple to see though and i don't know why my shop's items wouldn't show up on the search page if a person writes contempola - as it's a very different word from contemporary - and my items should show up first. I think my customers are searching for my shop that way and then when my items don't show up at all - they think i don't have a shop anymore on etsy.
"Did you mean the shop ContempoLA?" If a shop is searched by name, the user has to click on this line in order to get to the shop. This is the way it has worked for over 2 years.
For a long time typing in a shop name does not lead to a shop but to items that have some relationship to the name of the shop.
In order to get to the shop, one has to use that line under Etsy picks.
The shop name does not appear in the listings I looked at. Or it is possible Etsy removed that tag.
