Shipping stats aren't accurate

Jump to solution

This is disappointing to me.  I had an order from someone in a nearby town.  She indicated on the order she'd pick it up from me.  Because it has no tracking information, it counts against my shipping stats.  Even though all my orders have been delivered on time, my shipping stat dropped to 83% for the January Star Seller badge.  I actually have 100% shipping on time.

I had an online chat with a customer service rep yesterday and she said there's really nothing that can be done about it at this time.  They're working on it but in the meantime, I should just keep going and "you'll be up to 95% in no time".   However, in order to get up to 95% I need 14 more sales this month.  That won't happen, even though it's Christmas, because I sell photos / wall decor -- not something people traditionally give out as gifts for Christmas.

I understand that tracking is important because it assures the customer the item is on its way and they can see the progress.  However, if something is marked as "hand-delivered" or the customer writes "will pick up from you" (as was the case with my order), it should still count as delivered on time because it was.

Yesterday I told the rep that it was fine but the more I think about this, the more I feel this needs to be fixed sooner rather than later.  While Star Seller doesn't improve rankings or things like that, it does give the customer an added sense of confidence in the shop -- and that's important.

I've had the same thing happen to me - several times.

And I've read threads about local pickups or deliveries.

It annoys me that Etsy doesn't recognize a local pickup but I will always do the right thing for my customer rather than for the star seller badge.

By the way - one of those threads had a proposed solution ... send the local buyer a letter with a thank you note or the order details and use that as the tracking #.

And good luck getting Etsy to change their priorities about what needs to be fixed.

The review period changed today. Your september orders are no longer counted, and therefore that 1 order is affecting the % more, because there are now less total orders than there were yesterday.

Yes, it did change today.  That's why I said it dropped for the January badge.  Also, the order was from Nov 14th.  So it will count for this month, January and February.

@MJCPhotoShop: Whether it is fair or not, delivery and pickups do not count positively for Star Seller. If you have not yet done so, you might want to read https://help.etsy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360000338067-How-to-Offer-Local-Pickup-or-Delivery?segment=s...

Will local pickup orders be part of my evaluation for a Star Seller badge?

All physical listing orders must include a valid tracking number or a shipping label purchased on Etsy to be considered for a Star Seller badge. At this time, we’re unable to make exceptions for local pickup orders.

This also applies to delivery orders.

Since I already talked to a customer service rep, as indicated in my original post, I'm aware of their policy.  She also indicated it was being worked on.

My point is that it does need to be fixed as, apparently, others run into the same issue with in-person deliveries.

Star Seller Badges don't change your rankings or make it easier for searches -- but what they do is provide the customer with an added level of confidence in your shop.

Overall, I'm quite happy with Etsy.  If they fixed this to reflect actual on-time deliveries, I'd have absolutely nothing negative to say about them at all.

I am having a similar issue, sort of. The review period of 9/1/2022-11/30/2022 has my shipping score at 93% (because of one order shipped hours late after Thanksgiving), however, we actually had a flurry of orders come through on Sunday/Monday and none of those are included in the data used to calculate the December Star Seller Badge despite them being shipped within 24 hours of orders being placed. Why would the review period be listed as 90 days prior when it's actually 86 days?

@TYSMGifts: Orders are assigned to the month that they are scheduled to ship in.  Usually a day or two after the package has been scanned the CSV file correctly shows tracking and shipment status and Star Seller stats will auto update.

That is a good idea!  Use a tracking number to send a thank you/receipt and/or coupon on future orders.  I will definitely keep this in mind!
