Hi
I lost out an order due to the shipping rates not being accurate. Recently shipment costs in the US did not seem right. Today I went to the post office to find out the cost for shipping my controller to Germany. Etsy estimated a cost of $15 but cheapest is $25. How can we get this fixed?
Hi, I can't answer the above for you but just to let you know you have no shop policies on your first page. Regarding refunds etc, Etsy tends to side with the buyer if the seller hasn't got the correct policies up and I wouldn't like this to happen to you. As you are selling to us in the UK you have to have the 14 days for notification of a return from the customer and 30 days for the actual return.
Thanks, I am just now trying to build it up and thus pretty sure there are gaps.
If you buy Etsy labels you get a discount. Maybe that explains the difference.
You also need to be registered with the German recycling scheme
@Former_Member Is your game controller actually handmade/designed by you? If not, it cannot be listed/sold on Etsy! I see it listed all over the WWW, so I am guessing you are not the original artist!
Actually folks can list who they partner with each listing.
Only if you design the item and then have a production partner. If you are not the designer then it cannot be sold on Etsy. There is information in Help that explains what a production partner is used for.
@Former_Member said "Actually folks can list who they partner with each listing."
NOPE, because a production partner is NOT who you purchase the item from (Aliexpress, Amazon, Walmart, HP, etc.), and in doing so, this constitutes as reselling, which is against Etsy TOU!
Thank you for the quick clarification. I de-activated that one listing which I used during my Amazon seller days. I am really just starting with Etsy. Single dad of 4 it is tough. Made me happy to see 2 designs created by my twin 9 year olds be created then shipped. I have 50/50 so they get to show them off this week at school. Regarding the shipping maybe a dumb question. Is there a way to set auto calculate shipping in Etsy that takes current rates?
@Former_Member : Are you sure that your shipping profile(s) have the correct (shipped) weight and packaging sizes filled out? That is what Etsy uses for calculated shipping.
I thought I did but of course as a newbie, pretty sure I suck. I will check that.
@Former_Member : International shipping has very strange weight tiers so make sure that the weight you use is the weight of the package as it will be delivered to the post office. The same with the package dimensions (you need to round up). A one ounce difference that puts your package in the next weight tier can account for a $10 difference.
You need your shop policies for one thing.
Are you using fixed or calculated shipping? Fixed requires you input the cost. Calculated rates the cost via weight of item packed and boxed, dimensions of item and zip code.
Did you use commercial rates via Etsy labels? Retail rates? Did you go to the post office? Did you use another postage system? If the weight and dimensions along with zip are not accurate then there will be a discrepancy in shipping cost.
Since you played the "I'm a single parent" card, I should advise you that starting a business selling online is a really terrible idea if you need the money that badly. You will not generate a consistent income right away, and you never will unless you go big, know what you're doing, get lucky and work like the Devil himself over an extended period of time. I've been selling online for over 20 years, I've learned this the hard way. There's nothing wrong with selling off stuff you no longer need to raise a little extra money, but Etsy is not the place to do it because of the restrictions on what you can see here. There is no excuse for not knowing that you're not supposed to sell a non-vintage video game controller here. No excuse at all. The rules are spelled our pretty clearly, you just didn't read them. If you want to do an online garage sale, eBay suits the purpose much better. Etsy is still meant for crafters, designers and businesses that supply them.
Given where you seem to be in your personal situation, and given your lack of experience in online selling, you're better off getting a second job or driving Uber or something. Etsy has too many sellers as it is right now — the number of sellers tripled over the pandemic, while the buyer pool only doubled — and even a lot of sellers who know what they're doing are struggling at the moment. Etsy actually has some reason to cull the marginal sellers right now, so they won't cut you any breaks.
