I’m new to etsy selling, but I’ve had my first two prospective buyers tell me they aren’t being able to pay. The first person was trying to buy my one item listing. We never got it figured out. The second person, I’ve put together a custom order for her, posted a custom listing for her. Now she also can’t check out. For the second person, who I’m trying to help now, she’s trying to pay with Apple Pay. The message she is getting is “hmmm something went wrong.” Is there any way to talk to someone at etsy? I must have a problem on my end, but I don’t know what it is or how to fix it.
Apple Pay may be leary of your new shop status. Ask your buyer to try PayPal or a regular credit card. The buyer should put only one item from your shop in the cart; if the buyer wants to buy more, pick the most expensive item first. Then add any other item. Let us know what happens.
She said she tried two additional credit cards after Apple Pay. She’s only trying to buy this one item, but it is a large item. But since I have never successfully received a payment, I feel like something must be wrong on my end. And I don’t know how to get in touch with anyone from Etsy.
Add your policies on returns, refunds, damaged goods, and cancellations. Sometimes, scammers hunt for new shops and try to pay for things with stolen or inactive credit cards. I would be suspicious about someone who can't get three credit cards to work on an online marketplace. Don't keep thinking it's your fault. Etsy will protect you if you get policies in place and you don't change address on any order. For a $700 order, you want a buyer with good credit and not a potential scammer.
She said it says I’m not onboarded with etsy?
I looked at your shop. You are fine except for the lack of policies and an About page, which you can add. There is no "onboarding" for Etsy. I think you are talking to a scammer who wants you to take the sale off Etsy, offer you a check, or other dangerous moves. You just need to work on policies, pronto. Sales will come in the future.
I just had a customer say she could pay. I have had my shop since 2014.
I recall your Shop from your Monday Post re your first Sale failing.
The first thing to ask is where is the Shop Located? you indicate on the Listing that "Ships from Shingle Springs, CA" but "Klarna" is not an available Payment Option, which could indicate that the Shop is set is a Country which does not support "Klarna" or that there is something amiss with your Payment Settings/Account/Currency Settings
Secondly, you have a mandatory "Personalization" variation, but I cannot work out what one is supposed to enter into this field.
Thirdly, I can see all Credit Cards and Pay Pal are active Payment Options for US Buyers, but you ship only to the US so, perhaps, your Buyer is located in a Country to which you do not sell?
Just a FYI perhaps double check the TM rules for use of the terms "Dr Suess" / "Alice in Wonderland when applied to the advertising for a bookcase?
Edited to add ... Could it be possible that this is the same Buyer (using a different persona / account) who was a "potential scammer" from Monday? The one who wanted to take the Sale off_Etsy?
@TinLizziAntiques "Etsy will protect you if you get policies in place and you don't change address on any order" No they won't. They only protect you on sales up to $250
@BlackCatTheory, you are correct. I was trying to emphasize the need for policies.
I had a friend try to order to test it. No credit card payments, or any payments are going through, not just for the item I have listed, but for custom orders. I’m seeing other new shop owners posting about the same issue, but not seeing any resolutions. Waiting to hear back from Etsy for help, I guess.
