Search for a Sewing Pattern, IP Infringing Grinch T Shirt #1 in Results

Search is broken.

I search for a Vogue sewing pattern and in the #1 search position is a listing for a counterfeit Grinch Vogue magazine cover.

I have never, ever, ever bought a shirt on Etsy.

All of the top four results aren't even sewing patterns - wall art that has nothing to do with sewing or patterns, counterfeit designer perfume.

20 of 28 listings are for something other than sewing patterns.

Failing grade on all accounts, Etsy.

Okay, now I searched "McCalls 6317" and refined it to "Lowest Price".

The top results are:

A textbook about Phlebotomy, a sewing tshirt, a leather tote bag tutorial, and a tropical shirt sewing pattern (not McCalls).

The next whole row are illegal PDF copies.

Le SIGH.

at least the phlebotomy textbook sounds interesting.

almost everything ending in botomy is interesting.

i think etsy search needs a lobotomy.

I'd rather have a bottle in front of me than a frontal phlebotomy.

Searched 'Grinch Vogue' and the first result wasn't Grinch related but was a current 2023 Vogue magazine.  Handmade, of course!

eta - There were Grinch related items such as shirts and holiday lawn ornaments, but they were sellers' ads.  No surprise there!  Amazing tho that there are a lot more shops besides that first result that are also selling well-known handmade magazines.

Oh, but it didn't SAY Grinch... it was "Green Man", don't you know!

So that makes it okay...

@PlatypusDream Ah!  A seller who thinks they found the loophole.

The ads suck, but filtering then switching the sort gives pretty good organic results: https://www.etsy.com/search/craft-supplies-and-tools/sewing-and-fiber/sewing-and-needlecraft/sewing?...

I didn't see the Grinch even before filtering, but did see a shirt as the top ad.

@PlatypusDream
Sadly, I’m not surprised.  I have been extremely frustrated with having to weed through 10-20 non-relevant search results per page to find something that sometimes barely resembles the search parameters I entered.  As I’m sure you know, Etsy sellers have complained about this here for a while now.  I know at least some customers are frustrated with it too.  Just today, my BFF asked me what was up with Etsy.  She was looking for a scarf and not only got a lot of non-scarf results, but also a lot of clearly-not-handmade-but-purporting-to-be-handmade scarves.  She said that she had to be very careful weeding through it all.  I can’t help but believe this will eventually affect sales on Etsy as shoppers look for less frustrating alternatives.
