Sale discount being applied on custom orders

Jump to solution

I asked for help two weeks ago when Etsy was automatically adding my sale discount to custom orders. I took all advice, disabled ALL my discount codes (thank you, abandoned cart, etc.) Yet again yesterday, a 30% discount was applied to a custom order. The customer and I agreed to cancel the order and when her funds were restored to try and list the order again. Why is this happening?

It looks like your entire store is 30% off so since a custom order is part of the store it too sells for 30% off.

a straight % off, has to pick listings to be in it.

unless they add the custom order listing, it shouldn't apply.

only minimum order total/qty % off sales apply shop wide to any listing created.

These last three sales--custom orders--I did not include in the listings for the sale, yet, when the customer checked out the 30% was added to their total. I took all shop owners advice about disabling coupons in my shop but it obviously has done no good. This cannot continue. I need some real technical assistance.

I understand that, when I create a sale, I have to pick all items I want included. I learned this today, that the site will add the percentage off of the store for a custom listing, which is not ok, if the amount was already agreed upon with the buyer. I would advise you folks to add the custom listing higher when having a sale, so when the site  takes off the percentage it's the agreed amount. (if you agree on $150 and the sale is 20% off listings, list the item for 187.50, and the site will automatically drop it it $150 for you.

Hi, have someone found a solution for this? My customers are adding Etsy's automated thank you 15% discount to the custom orders. It's so annoying and disrespectful. Any advice? Thanks!

I just canceled a custom order where a customer applied an abandoned cart discount. I (nicely) told him that we agreed on a price and that is not the price he paid. We'll see if he decides to re-purchase the item. Annoying and disrespectful is exactly the way I would describe it as well.

@RealtyKiosk

The only way to completely avoid this is to cancel the promo and deactivate the code.  If you just cancel the promo then no more codes can be sent out, but the people that already have the code can still use it.  If you deactivate it, then the code is no longer valid for anyone.

You can minimize the risk a little, by changing the code often, but this would not totally eliminate  the problem.

I just had the exact same issue! My customers don’t usually use discount codes on custom/private listings, so I didn’t even know it's a thing. But someone just did exactly that!! The custom listing I made already included a discount through my shop’s current promotion, and I didn’t notice they also applied another coupon code until now....I’m not going to go back and cancel the order, but I’ll definitely do so if someone does that again going forward. I really hope Etsy does something to fix this, at least giving us an option of not allowing coupons on custom listings.

@LilFoxPOD Did that custom listing have a sale price on it?  Or did you just lower the price for her?

If it was also on sale with a % off promotion and the buyer input a coupon code for another % off, the coupon would've overridden the sale price.  The sale price would revert to the original price and the coupon % would have been deducted from that amount.  The only coupon that would work on top of a sale is if it was for free shipping.  If you just gave her a discount on the price, then the coupon would work.  Was she aware that you lowered the price for her?

There's also an Etsy promo currently going out to select buyers but the money would not be taken from the sellers.  Was it one of those coupons?

Zombie from last year..........as fast as Etsy changes things, @LilFoxPOD  you may want to start your own post before the MODS shut this down.
