How can I remove this service. It is of no use to me and when it does work, it's used on items that I hardly make a profit on as it is. I want it off. I will do my own advertising.

If you mean Offsite Ads rather than the ads that show up in Etsy search then you need to go to
Shop Manager / Settings / Offsite Ads and confirm multiple times that you want to turn them off
