Reminder: Verify your new name within 9 days to get paid

Jump to solution

Hi! I updated my legal information, and the T&S Team tried to contact me, but I didn't have access to that email. So, I reached out to support, and they updated my email. Now, it's been more than a month, and I haven't heard from them. I've contacted support many times, and they always say I have to wait for T&S. After getting a banner saying I have to verify my information, it says I have 30 days to verify my information, and I only have nine days left. Has anyone else had the same problem? This is the banner I have now

Reminder: Verify your new name within 9 days to get paid

It looks like we couldn’t verify the recent update you made to your primary taxpayer name, so you still can’t receive funds from your sales. To get paid, you’ll need to upload a legal document (like a government-issued ID) confirming your new name — this helps us keep our community safe. If you can’t verify your name, we’ll need to cancel your pending sales and put your shop on pause via Vacation Mode.

Do you now have the correct email address on file? If not, you still won't receive anything. They want you to upload a copy of a legal id, like your driver's license or a state issued id. But make sure the correct contact info is there first.

Are you sure that the message/request is coming from Etsy ("T & S Team")?  Confirm it before sending any info.

The email they sent me was sent to my old email address, which I can no longer access. They have the correct email address, but they still sent the email to the wrong one. I confirmed this with the support chat.

you need to make sure everything on the IDs matches,

so if your name in the legal section is

Jane S Smith

the the name on your bank account can NOT be

Jane Susan Smith

etc, they all have to be identical.

if you are sending more than 1 document, then put then together in 1 document, and convert to 1 pdf and attach and send.

check the e-mail address is correct now

Just FYI that may be the case over the pond but I can confirm the name I use on Etsy for my account and displayed in several places in my account settings is not identical to my banking information name.  For Etsy I use my common short form of my name.  For the bank accounts my legal name. Naturally the government proof-of-me document Etsy wanted has my legal name. But for correspondence, dashboard, account info and financial info it is my short for name that is shown as Full Name.

Dear All,

I hope this message finds you well.

I am writing to seek urgent assistance regarding an ongoing issue with verifying the new name of my Etsy shop, which I have been experiencing since June 14th. Despite multiple attempts to resolve this matter through contacting support, the issue remains unresolved. As a result, I have had to place my shop on vacation mode, which is impacting my business.

I would greatly appreciate any help or guidance you can provide to expedite the verification process and help me reactivate my shop as soon as possible.

Thank you for your understanding and prompt attention to this matter.

Best regards,
Nabil

Did you get any updates? I think my account is active. I have a red banner saying I need to verify my name, and I've done it multiple times, but there are still no updates. I can't deposit the money into my account, and I have a decent amount. I really need help!

I am having this exact same issue. Did you figure out how to solve it? Here's the message I get as a yellow banner.

Reminder: Verify your new name within 32 days to get paid

It looks like we couldn’t verify the recent update you made to your primary taxpayer name, so you still can’t receive funds from your sales. To get paid, you’ll need to upload a legal document (like a government-issued ID) confirming your new name — this helps us keep our community safe. If you can’t verify your name, we’ll need to cancel your pending sales and put your shop on pause via Vacation Mode.

Down below it says my government-issued personal ID is verified. Then, when I click on "edit" it says my full legal name is pending verification. I've tried clicking the black "verify your info" in the yellow banner multiple times. For reference, this is the beginning of the message on that page.

Upload your government-issued ID

To verify your identity, you’ll need to share a photo of your government-issued ID for us to review.

Have multiple IDs to upload? Submit your first file, then refresh this page to add more.

I've done this multiple times. I've tried all ways to upload, being that I have three ID's needed to verify my changes. Every time I get an email from Etsy's trust and safety team saying

"It has come to our attention that the name on the documentation you've provided does not match the name you have updated to on your account.

If you have officially changed your name we will need you to provide valid proof so that we can validate your account. The updated name on the account must match the ID or the supporting documentation uploaded."

Does anyone know how to solve this?/ Have figured this out? Thank you all so much!

I also have had this exact issue since June. I have no idea how to rectify it. I have sent both my passport and driver's license multiple times. I have had my etsy shop since 2011. I am unable to receive any funds from sales I have made because of all of this. Everytime I respond to their e-mails from the Etsy Trust & Safety people, they just respond with the same exact e-mail saying I need to send them an e-mail with my full name, date of birth, and then upload my govt ID. I do not know what else to do.

My bank account is a joint account with my husband, so after verifying the bank account info, his name is under the legal shop information. However, I am the original etsy shop owner. Is this why there is confusion? Do I need to submit his information instead?

Has anyone figured it out?

You need your own bank account, just in your name,

1 owner, 1 shop, 1 bank account name, 1 tax number,
all must match exactly

@AgainstLeGrain: The various applicable laws and regulations are just getting tougher and more restrictive. What was sufficient yesterday may not be enough today.

As @CraftyCornishMaids points out, everything matching exactly is now required, whereas years ago you could probably have used your neighbor's bank account and no one cared.

EU, and many other countries, have signed up to the OECd's digital reporting laws.

as Georgia wants to join the EU, they probably have too.

If so, etsy 100% need 1 name, to match everything, including bank account name and tax id

... check with your government .... but esty is probably implementing it, because they have too

In other words, I need to create a bank account under my name instead of a bank account under both my husband and myself? Do you guys know if they will give my funds from my sales from June or is that a lost cause because of this verification process?

Re the necessity for a personal vs joint account: My sister's account for Etsy (and Shopify) is joint w her hubby and has been since starting her business, first on Shopify then via Sellbrite to Etsy.  Shopify remits its payments to the account, and Etsy remits its to the same account.  Ditto PayPal for the shopify site.  And all are personal chequing accounts, not business, at the bank.

As for money, if the $ has not been sent to your bank then you will get it eventually.  Etsy is fair about payments et al.

@luxcrafter : What if under the legal shop information it has my husband's full name? I guess ever since we had to verify the bank account, he was technically the primary account holder of it...but it is definitely a joint account.

I know at some point this year Etsy was requiring us to verify our taxpayer ID if we had made more than $500 in sales, so I had updated that portion and I think that's where I am having the issue. It still says pending verification under my full legal name. But I would rather just take it all back and start from the beginning to avoid all of this.

@AgainstLeGrain

us to verify our taxpayer ID

there is no "our" taxpayer ID

If your husbands name is in the legal and tax information,

It has to be his tax ID, and his bank account

.....

you can't change the account holder, in legal and tax information, etsy does not allow shops to be transferred

if you try to change that name, you have to have proof of name change, such as deed poll name change, marriage certificate etc.

If your husbands name is there, it has to be his tax ID
