Hello,
I had a odd happening last week. A lady placed an order, she had seen a $89.00 discount that came up on her App for my shop. She placed the order so I asked her where this discount came from. I had no idea that Etsy would go ahead and offer an $89 discount for a single item. She replied that it came up on her App. I was so confused so she sent me a screenshot. I told her I could not honor the discount. She understood and said she thought it was odd....normally, it would have been a discount of 10% or $5 off. Since, I have had two customers use this coupon. I am not sure how Etsy came up with this sale for my shop, specifically. Most of my items are $29-$69. I am not sending items I do not get paid for. I am so confused and wonder if any other sellers had the same issue. Please reach out if you had this same experience. Thank you for your time in advance.
Do you have any coupons active? Go to Shop Manager --> Marketing --> Details & Stats to check.
Alternatively, it may potentially be an Etsy-funded discount, where they cover the discount, and you still get paid full price?
After making a sale like this, check your Payment Account details, and it will show a detailed breakdown of the income and fees for that sale, which may clarify what is happening.
I would approach this situation with caution, as it raises some concerns. If the discount is genuinely offered by Etsy, it should be automatically reflected in the final purchase price during checkout. To my understanding, Etsy typically does not cover the full cost of an order on behalf of a seller.
Therefore, my response would be: if this is an official promotion directly sponsored by Etsy, the discount should appear on the final invoice without any action required on my part. If it is not an Etsy-sponsored offer, I unfortunately do not have any active sales or promotions matching that description, and I would not be able to apply it.
$89 seems like a lot for Etsy to cover?
I agree. There's usually a maximum for discounts that Etsy will cover. I just got a coupon code for 20% off, but the maximum is $20.00.
Really.
Etsy wanted everyone to lower their shipping to $6 because actual shipping was too much for them to cover for Etsy Insiders.
Very strange indeed. That is a BIG discount. Only thing that comes to mind is could it be a credit she has on her seller account she might be seeing?
She said "Since, I have had two customers use this coupon."
Not related to you issue but the wooden doors are showing a $1 shipping cost. Not sure if that is correct but shipping a $500 door for $1 seems odd. That oversized item will probably cost a good chunk of change to ship.
To be clear.. she ordered and an $89 discount was applied or she SAID she had a code for $89 off? If it was applied you should have been able to see what the code was named on your csv and possibly elsewhere..but if you canceled it probably not. If it was the latter, she may have just been trying to pull a fast one. Have you ever made a copon code for anyone to say discount shipping or something? Codes can be scraped even if it was a one time thing if you didn't deactivate it?
I ordered biz cards last week via Walgreens and it was $39.95 for 200 in store pickup, but a code popped up on my computer and I ended up paying $15 plus tax..more than half off. I think it is a Capital One code finder?
