Recaptcha won’t work can’t sign into shop

Recaptcha  does not work so I cannot sign into my shop.  As I have two shops I need to go from one to the other and it’s impossible I can’t list or process orders. Customer services are useless and now do not even reply to me. They were offering useless solutions the only time I got someone who said they could disable Recaptcha for me which is what I wanted asked for security information which I supplied three times snd no one replied . I started a new thread again no reply snd so it goes on. I am crying with frustration and furious that these companies are getting away with taking so much off our sales yet cannot provide us with basic customer service. Please help. At the very least I want to lodge a formal complaint against Etsy. This just isn’t right.

Re: Recaptcha won’t work can’t sign into shop

I seldom have recaptcha unless my Windows makes a change or update.

Why not have two browsers open.  I used to do that when I had more than one shop.

I find recaptcha irritating but I live with the necessity of it.

QAre you using a VPN?  That may be why you are constantly getting it.  Etsy does not care for VPNs.

Do you have vision issues?  It may be hard yes to see all the tiny areas where just a smidgeon of a bus or car might be.  I can't recall if Etsy has the opportunity to use something else besides the photos.

I would test to see if it is your device and security that is making for the issue.  Oh and also I don't remove certain cookies except when I deem it necessary.  If you are removing cookies always that may be the reason for the recaptcha to show as well.

Re: Recaptcha won’t work can’t sign into shop

Thank you - I do have two browsers open but if the window gets closed for any reason I am back to square one.  No do not have vision issues.  Not sure what the VPN actually involves but can have a look I have tried most other things.  I also found out etsy stops replying to you if you mention complaints at all as they basically dont have a complaints procedure which is criminal if you ask me.  Just so frustrated and just had a power out so cant sign into one of my shops again - I can do one of them via google sign in but not the other.  Am at the end of my tether have literally tried everything on their sign in help pages.

That theory doesn't work when the bus (just one example) is in all photos and you still don't get in.  I don't have a VPN or vision issues and I don't remove cookies and it took me 140 tries to get into one of my shops a couple of days ago.  Captcha has been really abusive for the last week or so.

I also have 2 shops and I am not smart enough to keep 2 browsers open but the next time my 13 year old great-granddaughter comes to visit I'm going to have her show me how!

Captcha has been brutal and when you KNOW without doubt that you got the thing right, it can be very frustrating.  I sometimes go from shop to shop while listing (it's in the way photos are taken) and I haven't listed anything new for days because of the frustration of Captcha.

Why does it have to happen on EACH AND EVERY login?

Re: Recaptcha won’t work can’t sign into shop

@PortVintage: As suggested, using two browsers to switch between shops can help and also reduces cookie clash issues. An incognito / private window on the same browser is also a solution but then you lose all of your cookies (including login cookies) when you close that window.

While Google does not share its magic recipe for how it calculates your reCaptcha score there are some known factors: the reputation of your IP address, if you are using a VPN, what browser you are using, if there has been a browser update, if your browser is blocking tracking, what extensions are on your browser, whether or not you are currently logged into Google, viruses or malware on your computer or modem, if you are using a proxy server, your search history, your cookies, etc etc etc. Sometimes it is as simple as your browser not sending enough information and that is why doing a page refresh occasionally works.

Re: Recaptcha won’t work can’t sign into shop

Ok have asked partner and no we are not using VPN.  I tried the incognito window and it came up with recaptcha but it worked so thanks for that.  I am not confident it will work next time as have been here before when something works then doesn't but at least I am on for now.  Has taken me over an hour.  I am just so fed up with this.  Thanks all.

I completely share your frustration!

Re: Recaptcha won’t work can’t sign into shop

This may be basic stuff that everyone knows, but there are a couple of things I learned about reCaptcha purely by trial and error, and a lot of frustrations...

When it shows you 9 (or is it 12?) different photos (instead of one photo broken into 9 or 12 segments), click on all the buses, cars, bicycles or whatever it wants, then wait before clicking verify.  Then a new round of photos will appear; click on those; then a new round comes up.  The new photos take a few seconds.  I was always too quick to click verify, and would have to start over.

Another thing that seems to work, is when I've been in a seemingly endless loop, I clear my history, open the site again, and start over.  Clearing cookies and cache seems to clear out the endless loop.

Hope that helps.
