I use my iPad in Safari while I work. It is like a little computer.
I DO NOT need the app. In fact, there is not a app that works in landscape mode without the iPad screen being held upright.
Now when I am working and click on a order via MESSAGES the shopping app automatically opens so I can not get to the order. It does it if I click on the item from messages too. Any item or order link does this! Only acts normally if I am on the orders page.
Please fix this asap!
And for a side note, those of us that use different browsers like using them. It’s not cool to force us into any other method or app we don’t want to use just because your code says it’s a mobile browser.
Found the work around was to delete the Etsy app from my iPad.
Shouldn’t have to do that
Yes this is what I was going to suggest. I deleted it years ago as it was terrible. Every time they do an update to it I hear it is even worse than before. Glad you figured it out!
@PrettyVagrant it is sad but I was also going to suggest this because Etsy is so unresponsive to offering the ability for users to actually use things in ways that work for them.
I love my iPad. Glad you found a work around for your app issue.
I hate this. I click, hold my finger down and choose "open in new tab in group" to avoid it but it's a pain. This is on a mobile device though.
Since IPad works on Apple IOS which is similar to android. The only main difference is that Apple IOS is closed source unlike android. Since it is Android like the mobile site is what appears rather than the web version.
I'm happy for you that you found a work around, however the problem is not Etsy, but the device you are using. My other device is Android and it defaults to the mobile site now and not the web version. I don't use to work from so I am okay with the mobile version.
yes! This exactly.
@PrettyVagrant It's most likely a device issue not an etsy issue. At one point when you first installed the app the mobile device likely asked you how you wanted to view things from that site...in the app, on browser or elsewhere. You either selected the app or apple automatically defaults to that. At least that's how it has always worked for all of my android devices. (I went android years ago so can't quite remember apple ios exactly) Either way it's the device not etsy.
The ipad using safari is a full version of the site. I have been using a ipad for over 10 years. App has been loaded since it came out. It’s not the ipad causing this. It is coding on Etsy’s end directing the link to open the app instead of another web page.
I only use the app with iPad for the Cha-Ching. I use Safari for everything else.
Does your open the app if you click on a order # from the messages page?
I have been using a iPad for over 10 years, and my latest iPad is a year old. This never happened until lately and I always had the app installed on the iPad since it first rolled out. The app also does not ask about any opening preferences. It is totally something on Etsy’s side directing the link to open the app instead of the web browser page.
@PrettyVagrant I’m using a newish iPad too - I don’t have any problem with the Orange seller app, always opens well. The new Blue app will not open on a landscape screen as you say. I ditched the new App - unfortunately the only recourse. Months ago I did the Etsy Survey on the new app, pointed out this crazy scenario and I know we are not alone… nothing has changed.
I have an older ipad and I am not having any of the issues spoken of here. Maybe when I get a new one I will. But so far so good.
I use the app- I like the older one better but I also just have Etsy open in my browser on my ipad too. I guess if you don't want the app-- remove it.. there is no rule that says you have to use it. Eventually the orange app will go away and I will just use my browser as I am not a fan of the new app. lol
On IOS how do you stop Etsy from opening in the app instead of Safari? I have had no trouble with this until today
Delete the app? I don’t know. I’m just throwing that out there.
