I got a message from a buyer saying they needed to have my email adres because Etsy was asking for it to fulfill a purchase. Which sounds weird to me, why would a buyer need my email to fullfil a purchase in my shop? Is this a scam?
I really hope not, my Etsy could use some sales, it is dead right now.
SCAM, they want to get your email address in order to take the conversation off Etsy and send you FAKE Etsy emails that claim you need to verify your bank account or do other things in order to get paid. Then they empty your bank account.
Definitely a scam. Send it to spam, and you can also report it to Etsy via chat
No buyers need your email.
Sorry they targeted you; these goons have nothing better to do, and I'm glad you did not click or engage.
Also, there is an Etsy Announcement re: Scams, at the top of the Forums. Stay safe.
@DigitalDreamCloud yes for sure is a scammer. It is a well known pattern, refuse it.

Ah man I thought that was solved by now. Oh well, thank you for the clarification. Sign.. I get these mails daily, but still you sometimes hope there is a real customer behind it.
Thanks for posting this, you guys! I just received a message asking for my email address and to confirm the order. Buy my computer security software flagged it as a phishing email and stopped it!
scam
Last week there was a post from a seller here in forum who received a similar message from a “customer.” When she gave them her email address, she received a very official email that looked like it was from Etsy (but it was not from Etsy) stating that she needed to enter her credit card (or a bank account, etc) to verify her Etsy account in order to complete the sale.
So, this shop owner clicked on the link provided in the email and entered her financial information. Then they gave her some reason why “Etsy” needed to remove funds from her account, ensuring her that the funds would be replaced along with her sale proceeds.
When she asked her question in the Etsy forum, she still didn’t realize she had been scammed. Her question was: when was Etsy going to give her the money back that they had charged her credit card. People kept responding that this was a scam and she answered them more than once, explaining that Etsy keeps asking for her credit card number on EVERY sale she makes. But when you went to her Etsy shop, she only had 1 sale.
This poor shop owner was being repeatedly scammed and she thought she was making sales and that Etsy would eventually return her money.
But her shop only showed one sale. All legitimate sales on Etsy will always show up immediately in your shop dashboard.
Scammers target new shops because those sellers are less familiar with Etsy’s policies and procedures. New sellers are also vulnerable because they really want to sell their items so they really want the sale to be real.
I’m posting this in the hopes that you and others don’t get scammed.
Oh that is a very sad story. I am working as a freelance designer as well, so ((un)fortunately) I get different scamming mails a lot. They target me wanting a commission, wanting to pay imeediately, but then they want your Paypal, then you have to transfer a random amount of money to them to "link" the accounts, and after that you never hear from them again. And it is sad that they target business people specifically who don't have a lot of customers/commisioners and could really use them.
@DigitalDreamCloud I agree.
I used to get these kinds of conversation years ago when I first opened my shop, convos asking for charity donations too. I put them all to spam and just ignore them. I haven't got any ever since.
We got 2 messages today anslinh for our emails, there doesn’t seem to be anything that I can see where I can report them, does Etsy not work to close these peoples accounts? We should be able to report then
